Is a sharp lens and the AF is fast and accurate enough for cycling race photography. That's my go-to lens for wide angle, fast action shots.

You can pick one up under $300 on Ebay, imported version of course.

Woah, what a deal. I remember paying $6XX when it just came put (actually got a great deal from Adorama @ ~$5XX with coupons). Great crop lens, probably my favorite at the time.
