I am trying to find the shutter count in the exif data. Can someone point me in the direction of extracting the shutter count using Adobe Bridge? I am using a Windows 7 64 machine running the latest version of Adobe CC. The bodies used are 5D MK II, 5D MK III, and 7D MK II.

Regards,

Canon cameras do not write total shutter count to EXIF. Somewhere in the EXIF is an "image count" which some people mistake as shutter count. It's not.

The only way I know that works is: http://www.eoscount.com/ (external link) (for a fee). Requires you to connect camera to PC. Utility then reads count from inside the camera.

Here's a site that tries to read it from the EXIF of an uploaded image. But if you upload a Canon 5D(1,2,3) image it will tell you no can do.

I believe Magic Lantern firmware has a shutter count utility.

All of your cameras should be supported.

Thanks for the reply's regarding the shutter count. I know the info is buried in the exif data, why
it is such a complex secret is beyond me. Magic Lantern does not work on the 7D Mk II, but it does work on the 5D MK II and III.

If you are willing to take some time, here is a C# tutorial for working with the Canon EOS SDK:

http://www.codeproject.com …-EDSDK-Tutorial-in-Csharp (external link)

It is not specific to shutter count (it looks to be more about remotely controlling a camera) but it will probably get you connected and permit you to read data from the camera, via the official SDK.

Thanks for the link to the SDK. That is close to my wheelhouse, so I will take a look.
