My G1 died. Probably the fuse thing I have been learning about today.
I called Canon and they said they will upgrade me to the G6 for $299 and turning over my G1.
My biggest problem with this is that I have just within the last couple of weeks (doesn't it just figure!) purchased a whole set of adapter lenses and filters for the G1 and from what I have been able to find out none of them will work with the G6. I cannot return them since there are no defects in the items.
My question is would I be better off just upgrading to the G6 and attempting to sell the lenses for the G1 or should I send in the G1 to be fixed and invest another $150 into it since I have the accessories already?
Thanks I appreciate the help.

I have a G6 (my 4th Canon digital camera) and love it! It is very versatile and the 7 Megapixel images are just beautiful. My advice is to upgrade the camera and sell the other parts on eBay.

What lenses do you have for the G-1? i am not sure, but maybe all you need is the right adapter for the G6 and you might be able to use your lenses. Check out this site: http://www.lensmateonline.com/ (external link). Welcome to the forum!

I would go with the upgrade to the G6. You'll appreciate the upgrade in features and resolution. I checked @ lensmate and it looks like your G1 just takes accesory lenses with 49mm threads. The G6 will take 52mm threads. With adaptor rings you probably can get your lenses to work on the G6. You'll probably have some vignetting issues with a wide angle lens, but should be ok with a tele. The lens issue not withstanding, the $299 upgrade to the G6 sounds a heck of a lot better than dumping $150 into a 1st generation G series camera.

A good condition working G1 should go for less than 100$ on ebay.

I went from a G2 to a G6 and was thrilled. It's faster, offers nice features (C1 & 2 memory positions on the dial, ND filter, etc.) but was similar enough that I had no learning curve.

I had the same problem with my G1. I had the lens adapter and some macro lens for my G1. I just figure these are a investment for my G1 that will collect dust now. I did do the G6 upgrade after thinking about it for a while. The first G6 I got was bad and I had to send it back for another replacement. Be sure, if you get the refurbished G6, that you fully test it within the first 6 months of the warrenty. I have been very happy with the G6. Have ot got any other addon's yet. Thinking of getting an external flash. Only problem with these point and shot type cameras are thier ability to autofocus in low light. I still think the G6 could do a lot better in low light. Otherwise I think you are getting a great deal. Just remember that the file sizes will be much bigger thus you will likely need more memory cards if you shot like I do and in RAW format.

Thanks everybody.
I contacted Canon about the G6 and it is the refurbished model with the 6 month instead of the full 1 year guarantee.
I am going to give it a try and it should be here by the end of next week. I get the G6 before I send them the G1 so if I don't like it I just return it and if I do then I send them the G1. I don't think that refurbished is a bad thing, just feels slightly more like a risk. I really am getting kinda excited to see it after having read a lot here and a LOT of reviews on the web. Not too many and no serious problems that I can find with this camera.
I really like the shape it looks much easier to hang on to and a neck strap that holds the camera square is a nice upgrade too. Then I even get to turn it on!

Thanks for your help. Sincerely appreciated!

BB makes a good point here. You'll probably be able to use those accessory lenses with the proper adapters.
I think you'll like the G-6. ;)
