Back after 5 years

After 5 years away from this forum and photography I've fallen back in love with it....
Canon was my preference and I don't see any reason to change but what do I get ??

Hmm, well to me a lot would derive from the experience that you had doing your previous years!:

*What SKILLS did you develop to enable you to move forward?

*What CHALLENGES did you encounter/face, both regarding your photographic skills and possibly the gear you were using?

*What are your ASPIRATIONS for moving forward? As in, what improvements in your skills, and what really interests you in the photographic work you wish to do?

Lastly, *What is your Budget, what can you afford to get restarted, if, say, your old gear is non-functional, or possibly inadequate to helping you in reaching your aspirations?

I myself shot with various film cameras in the "old days", having fun, snapshots, no eye toward the skills until I would encounter a scenario in which I really wanted to capture something "special", although the limits to my skills and my equipment would, well, squelch me, even though sometimes I would "aspire" to effectively capturing those scenes!

This continued into the digital age...I picked up various point-and shoot cameras and compact/Zoom cameras, capable of taking some nice photos, but then I was challenged in both my skills and my gear capabilities (and my budget)...this all led me to "GET SERIOUS" about these things, studying/learning, practicing, and in time investing...!

**I should add: *LEARNING AND EDUCATION -- from your prior experience, your lessons and challenges, and leading into your aspirations!

Books, online resources, mentors and colleagues, these should not just be "spare time" stuff, and not just the "how tos" of basic photography, but focusing yourself to moving forward toward your aspirations and taking on new lessons and challenges and developing your "vision" of your photographic images!

After being away from photography for so long think of what type of photography do you wan to get into, do you need any special equipment? If you don't need any thing special why not get an entry level camera and a basic lens in the 24-105 range and take some photos and see what you need after you use it for awhile. What type of photography interested you when you were taking photo's before ? do you want comparable equipment to what you had?
