So I had this lenses available and decided to do quick comparison wide open between all of them the 70-200 was shot at 200mm. Minimal post processing, 0 clarity, minimal sharpening to avoid altering the bokeh. I tried to keep the framing as close as I could, but I messed up with the 50L that is why it is 2 pictures stitched, I wanted to quickly compare what can you expect in terms of DoF between them.

Full body shots, Again I messed the 50L shot, but the main part is how the background looks.

I don't understand what you are attempting here. The mish-mash of various framings and focal lengths completely removes any comparison potential for me. I think posting two sets of shots would be more helpful. One with the same framing, and the other with the subject the same size in each.

Follow up: The 135L and 200mm shots are framed roughly the same. What does "original 50mm shot" from a way different position mean to this series?

What did I learn from this? The 70-200 f4 (non IS) is very sharp (ok I knew that already) Also from close ups to half body framing the 85 f1.4 and the 135L both melt the background. But at longer distances I think the 135mm starts to pull ahead. The 135L looks a little bit less contrasty because I didn't use the lens hood in the last shot, and there was some light hitting the front element. I know this comparison is less than perfect but hopefully it will be a good starting point for someone trying to choose his next lens.

Like I mentioned it was quickly done, I didn't have time to do the exact framing for each lens. Sorry about that. I still think it can be useful as there are not that many comparisons of these different focal lengths. The full body shot with the 50mm was done with a completely different framing, that is why I stitched 2 shots together to get more or less the same framing as the rest of the lenses, I included it for reference in case someone thought the stitched shots were useless. I see that you own a lot of glass. It would be really cool if you can make something like this and show me how it's done. And since you also have a crop body you could also include that in your comparison.

Bassat, with so much glass you obviously have some photographic experience. This was meant as a rough guide for those who don't.

:-)

I will be happy to answer any questions that I can.

Thank you! The 85L is in my wish list, and there are not many direct comparison between the 2. So I got the next best thing ( ok maybe like the next, of the next, of the next) and tried to give it a go.
