So I got the opportunity to shoot the Final Four in Houston over the weekend and thought it would be cool to compare the widest and longest lenses from the same location...

This is the Canon 11-24 f4 vs Canon 800mm f5.6

Wow that's pretty cool. I can't believe the reach of the 800mm. Only in my dreams

Love the wide angle shot. I can't believe so many people go to this sort of event! How on earth to spectators see what's going on when the match is being played? Binoculars essential! The 800mm zoom is amazing.

What a fun comparison! Thank you so much for sharing this. It makes me smile.

And BTW, that is a fabulous wide angle shot of the stadium!

Cheers,
Bryan

As far as the photos go wow! To Hannya who can't believe how many people go to the final four
you would be totally shocked at the ticket prices.

The quality of that 800mm shot is fantastic, especially indoors.

My dreams too! I borrowed the lens from CPS who was on site. I also got to try the 200-400 f4, and the 600mm f4. Oh, and a 5D mark 3 just because I never used one before!

They actually did have tables where they rented binoculars!

That's no joke! You could by some serious glass with what some people shelled out for tickets!

Yeah, it was pretty amazing! But the f5.6 and my inexperience in wielding mammoth lenses led me to exchange it for a 600 f4 at halftime.

Interesting looking at the wide shot and seeing how far away the fans are from the game.

WOW is right, great comparison shots, thanks for sharing them and giving us an idea of what it's like to be in some of the "nose bleed" sections. In some ways I guess one is paying just to say that they were there because they certainly can't see much of the game. Great pictures again.

Everyone is commenting how great the 800 is, and no one thinks that view is what you would get with the naked eye. Which is correct.

Yet everyone is commenting how far away the 11mm shot is. That wide shot makes it seem like you are WAY farther away than you actually are.

Seeing as he is shooting with a 5DIII (full frame), I would have liked to have seen a 50mm shot, to see what it would really look like for his seat.
