So I ordered this bag http://www.amazon.com …oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00 (external link) to use to carry my light stands and umbrellas to weddings. Its not a bad cheap bag, wish it had a shoulder strap but I knew that before purchasing. The downside is I can only get two stands and 2 smaller umbrellas in it.

I had a hard time even finding a bag that was 48" long. What does everyone else use. Again this is for packing to weddings and location shoots. I would like to be able to pack 4 stands and modifiers into it. I thought about baseball bat bags but those are not long enough either.

I normally use a hardshell case for transporting lightstands but I have one of these and it works quite well. Sturdy and really good value for the price.

I think Lightware makes a 50" long bag.

My answer for most photography questions: "it depends...'

You could probably rig something up (dividers and such) using a snowboard / skis transport bag. There will be some padding weather-proofing that might make it more bulky though...

I had that thought as I was putting my board away for the winter, but the bags I have for my boards are more like 6 or 6.5 feet. I wounder if they make shorter bags? Now I gotta go look at those

I like that bag wish I had found it instead of the one I have now, well for next time if I do not come up with a better solution

Does it need to be a full 48"?

We use the big duffles sold for hockey equip etc; they fit our big Manfrotto stands, 60" soft lighter and 84"(Buff parabolic), etc

pretty inelegant, but cheap and seem to last a long time.

I use California sun bounce Roller bag (external link), ThinkTank (external link) and Manfrotto (external link).

I would never use a cheap bag that can't take a beating.

Gotta fit a 48" light stand (well 48" at its smallest)

Yea $400 for a bag for my $30 light stands ..... not happening. They do however look nice and look like they can take a beating.

Well maybe not for every budget( what stands cost 30$ btw), but for me its a no brainer as my stands and modifiera cost a lot more then 400$.

For me safe transportation of gear (regardless how cheap the gear) is crucial, if i can't do a job due to equipment failing, or getting lost. Not only will it cost me the job, it can cost me future jobs as well.

Cheap nylon bags isn't option when you have heavier gear.

I have a few manfrotto standbags (external link) that is 120cm and it can take a couple of smaller stands and umbrellas.

I picked up two of these bags and have never regretted the purchase.
They are pretty heavy duty bags and have taken a beating in the bed
of my truck.
