Hi. I've got a 70D which I love and plan to keep as it's so good for sports, video etc., but also want to get a full frame body. I'd value opinions on which one you'd recommend as most complimentary and used mostly for portraits, animals and landscapes. Thanks.

What's your budget?

I personally have a 70D and a 6D and love the combination. The 70D is my wildlife/sports/video body, and the 6D is for everything else. They take the same batteries and are both SD card compatible so you wont need to worry about buying new accesories. Their control layout is also almost identical so switching between the two is pretty seamless.

It sounds like the 6D might be a good fit, as your sports/action work will be with the 70D. The 5D3 would be optimal, but you pay for it. You may also consider a 5D2. Lots of good prices for low mileage MkIIs on this forum.

I'm in the same boat and thinking about adding a full frame to my arsenal. I may wait and see what the 6D2 brings.

My budget is appx £1500 and I've been considering the 6D or the 5D mark ii, though don't know if there's another contender too. I don't think I could afford the mk iii.

Hrm,

Why do you think you need a full frame for those tasks that the 70D cannot already do?

Can you post examples where you feel a full frame would have made a difference for your portraiture?

Very best,

I think you would more than likely be happy with either, but having shot with both I would pick the 6D every time. Other than a few small things like one stop slower maximum shutter speed, and slightly slower flash sync the 6D is a minor upgrade over the 5Dii in pretty much every way.

Now someone is going to come in here and start talking about how the 6D's ergonomics are inferior. Which is fine, but I've never had a problem with mine, and if your happy with how your 70D handles you'll be happy with the 6D as well.

I want two bodies, so rather than have two that do exactly the same thing, I want two that compliment each other :)

I use a 70D and a 6D. The similarity of controls makes it an ideal combination.

For your situation, I'd concur with the 6D for the reasons solepatch called out

I was using a 70D and a 6D, and I was pleased with the combination. I've since replaced the 70D with something else.

What do you mean I only have two lenses? ... ah I see you are looking at my gear list lol. I have more lenses than I have put on there, but don't think that's relevant to my question anyway is it ?

Your EF-S lenses will not work on a full frame body. Only your EF lenses will. EF will work on crop or full frame. EF-S only work on crop.

i'm assuming your gear list in your signature is up to date...the only lenses that would fit on a FF are the 50mm and 24-105L listed...
