Magic lantern says my 6D has 246k shutter count. The camera is still fully original, she's never seen service and I don't have any problems with it. I know it's hard to guess reliability, but is there a general idea of how much more my camera can take before she's had enough?
Thanks.

Edit: please move if in wrong forum, thanks.

You're already more than double Canon's estimated shutter life, but even that doesn't mean your specific unit will die anytime soon.

Canon 1Dx - Sigma 120-300 2.8
Canon 5DII - Canon 24-70 L 2.8
Canon 7D - Canon 40STM 2.8
Canon FT - 55 1.2

Here is a best guess:

6D shutter life based on others data (external link)

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Well past it's life span.

Keep going.

It's still serviceable, so when it finally fails, get a new shutter, cheaper than a camera, and you're good as new again for another ton of images.

Very best,

I am impressed. Not too much data points but a 50% survival rate at 500000 shutter actuations is quite impressive.

Not trying to be a smart-aleck, but who cares? If I dies the next time you press the shutter, you certainly got your money's worth out of it. Buy another one. I keep buying Toyotas because they are still in top running condition when I wreck them. The last two were 243,000+ and 267,000+ miles. (Don't ask about the Ford in the garage!)

Assuming the body is in otherwise good shape, why not just have Canon replace the shutter box with a new one. Its probably would cost around $400, give or take, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new 6D.

Thanks for all the info guys. Just what I needed to know. Im trying to get guage on if I should replace it or not.

As for why I might care. If I'm in the position that this camera fails while being used, that means that I'll be on a job site with a dead backup after 2 other bodies has failed. Money is not an issue, but I'm not gonna dump it if it's got more to give as a third stringer.

Shes seen a lot of work, Ive decided that I'll just put it in my office as a memento, maybe I'll bronze it lol.

You've been so helpful.

I know poeple with 10 and 20D(s) that shoot them daily and they're still running strong.

I shoot some film cameras from as early as the 1930-1950s, who have never been serviced, and their shutters are still going strong.

Just get good inssurance and have a backup camera and dont worry about it.

You can buy the most expensive camera in the world and it could have a shutter failure on the first day. It's impossible to predict.

Ah, memories. I like the idea of memorabilia in the office. I have working (was when I put it there) copy of my first camera, the Brownie Hawkeye Flash, in my den. It reminds me of family outings to the beach. It hasn't had film in it since the early '70s. If the house catches fire, insurance can replace the 6D. I'm grabbing my Brownie!

Hi guys, I'm bumping this old thread if it matters to anyone, but the camera in question is approaching 500k shutters and still going strong. She's dirty and I abuse her, but this 6D still ticks. I'll update at 750k or when she dies.

6D was launched in Sept 2012, so 61 months since launch. Assuming you were an early adopter, that is 4032 per month, or about 930 per day, or 93 per hour assuming 10 shooting hours per day. And then you need to factor loss of shooting time due to bathroom breaks. IMHO that is a lot of shooting!

Those numbers are from April 2016, you might want to look at OP's update right above your post, they are closing in on 500k now!
