I edit on a PC, a pretty old one. But it's always seemed to have a fast processor. I've never had any complaints with it. Up until very recently. The last few exports I've done with LR 5 have been SO SLOW! I don't ever remember it being this slow before. For example....As I'm writing this I'm exporting 443 files at a max resolution of 4MB each. Normal sharpen for screen with a watermark. It's been exporting for about 20-30 minutes and it's 28% done. I feel like this is extremely slow! All the other features are fast. Mass edits, brushes, etc. No problem. But the exporting is the worst. I feel like it's only been like this on my last 2-3 exports. Even exporting a single picture can take 30-45 seconds.

No other program runs slow like this on my computer, and the weirdest part is that it only runs slow during export. Is this normal? Am I simply remembering wrong how slow the export process is?

Have a look at available space on the HD, and also the fullness of the recycle bin. Long shots maybe, but easy to check, and might help.

What type of watermark is it? Have you considered if it is sized appropriately for it's use? Even better try a batch export without it and see if that makes a difference.

Just a small graphic watermark. Takes up maybe 5% of the picture.

Yeah but is the process having to downsize a 16mb layered tiff file before applying it to that 5% of the picture.

no it's a 79.4KB png file. I could try my smaller mark that's a 14.2KB png file though. Don't know if it would make that much difference.

Yeah that sounds pretty innocuous. Still I would try it with no watermark at all next and rule out or in that whole part of the process.

Is it possible you have other things running in the background that are stealing RAM horsepower?

Many variables to "Running Slow". Start by looking at what processes are running, and even more important how much RAM is consumed. Don't know what OS you are using, but you did mention PC, so I am going to guess that Task Manager/Performance/Resource Monitor should give you a clue.

Hope this helps,

Do you have a lot of other programs or processes that load automatically at boot? If these or other items (worse case: Malware) are running in the background they will really cut into your LR efficiency.

Have you tried clearing the SLCache folder and check to see if Use Graphics Processor is unchecked or not?

When my export is getting slow, I usually would create a new catalog.

Recently I tested the Jpegmini Pro plugin. It reduces file size by 80%.
It is both a standalone app and a plug automating LR export.
If you would like to test it on Mac please PM me.

Quite often I have limited data and slow speeds, I got this so I could upload to Flickr and Facebook faster.
But exporting and writing to my SSD is much faster as well with the tiny file sizes.

Lastly, check you scratch disk size, increasing this may help as a buffer when processing and exporting.
Mine is set to 5Gb

I thought this is normal? Lightroom export takes an hour to export ~200 images to jpeg format on my machine, i5-3380M, Intel 256gb ssd

I just grabbed 384 images that were rated "5" out of Lightroom. I exported to a folder on the conventional spinning drive. It took 13 minutes. The computer is first gen I7-930 with a 256 GB Samsung 950 Pro....Programs and OS on the SSD, and the conventional spinning drive gets the data.
