1st round of the New Zealand Rally Championship.

We were really lucky to have current WRC driver Hayden Paddon and former WRC driver Markko Martin competing. Haydon in a special Hyundai i20 AP4. And Markko driving in the classic category in a Escort.

Nice shots, I'm going to be out and about shooting this weekend and Hayden is going to be up here in Whangarei so it should be extra exciting after his win in Argentina.

edit: just a question, did you chose 1/640 as your shutter speed because it gave you best results? it looks nice, fast enough for the car to be sharp but slow enough to get some blur in the flying debris

Hey Jason, i would of loved too of joined you up north this weekend, but I'm at a wedding instead !

Yes 1/640 was chosen for exactly what you said, i had a 300mm 2.8 with + 1.4 tc hand held. I used the 300 for safety as this was a very quick corner and as you can see from Jeff Judd in the escort, it was quite easy to hang the arse out and get a bit out of shape. As he just kissed the bank as well. Unlike circuit racing as you know where they go around and around, rallying is blink and there gone until you make it to the next stage. So I've found 1/640 a happy medium to get bankable shots.

Hope you enjoyed the 1st day on the rally !? I saw your shot shared by Cox motorsport, to comment on the shot of Jeff in the escort on your Facebook page.

Rob
