I currently have 50 1.4 ART & 135L. While Sigma 50 is nice, I have noticed some missed AF and sometimes wanting something slighty wider. Was thinking of adding 16-35L II. But Got to thinking, Maybe a 35L, 85L, 135L might be a better solution. Ditching the sigma. Anyone prefer either setup?

i would go with the Sigma 24-35 f2 then. or 16-35L if you are set on that option.

On crop, I would have suggested the Sigma 18-35 1.8

Heya,

It doesn't matter. What matters is what focal lengths you prefer for what you do.

I prefer 35mm & 85mm, but instead of 135mm I went straight to 200mm, so I use a 35/85/200 set of primes. I've just never gotten along with 50mm on full frame.

Very best,

I used 50A/85L/135L for about a year and recently just switched back to 35A. I like the 50A but there were times i wish i had a wider prime hence the switch, you cant go wrong with the 35/85/135.

Very best,

This is true, all the lenses you mention are great. Even the Non L lenses like 85 1.8 and 35 2.0 IS will give great results so just find what FL works for you.

As to missed focus, Are you missing focus at larger apertures ( 1.4, 1.6 etc. ) depth of field is shallow so that could be the issue.

It seems to be a little of everything. Not a ton, but Im locking on center focus point (maybe outer also) and I think its in focus, than in LR its OOF. Like I said, its not a ton, but enough where I notice it. Only had the lens a week :/

When I was using my Nikon F film cameras, I used 28mm, 50mm, 105mm, and 300mm lenses. I rarely felt a need for anything else but I wasn't really up on controlling perspective (relative sizes of elements of the scene that are different distances from the camera) at that time. Now, I use three zooms on an APS-C platform (currently a 7D) - 16-35, 24-70, and 70-200 (plus 2X extender at times), all with a max aperture of f/2.8. Yeah, these are heavy lenses but I've been really pleased with the combination.

Maybe post some examples with the EXIF data. Could be too slow of a shutter, could be that you focus and recompose. I always hear about focus issues with Sigma but I've never shot with one but I can say I also miss focus at times with almost any lens. If you do a test on a tripod and its sharp its probably fine.

My setup is 14mm rokinon and 85mm 1.8. I had the Sigma 35mm but sold it due to focus problems and weight/size. Looking to get the 35mm f2 IS when it goes back on sale.

If I had funds though, I would go 16-35 f4, 35mm f2, and 85mm 1.8. I would be very happy with that. The Rokinon is good for what it is, I just get tired of manual everything. And I find I can use the 35mm and stitch anyway.

I think those three lenses are great. But if I had to choose three primes to cover all my work I would pick something wider instead of the 135.

20 | 35 | 85

Would be my ultimate choice.

20mm is my favorite focal length for Architecture and Landscape. Wider is not better for Architecture.
35mm is my favorite walk around and Wedding lens. I can shoot 80% of a wedding with just this lens.
85mm is my favorite portrait lens. The focal length is perfect for portraits, not to long not to short, just perfect.

thanks to everyone. Sold the sigma real fast. Bought a used late 2014 85 II and I broke down and ponied up for a new 35 II. First actual brand new L lens I ever bought. I think I did it because its the new model and will have it for 10 years. To be honest, it feels good :)

6D + 35/2 IS + 85/1.8 + 135/2L

not perfect, but certainly not a bad trio & combo.
