Is there anyone in the know that has any idea if this flash is on the horizon? I've converted almost exclusively to the X1 system just for ease of use integrating two 360's (1 TTL and 1 Non-TTL), 2 of the TTL Li-Ion speed lights. After having the the Li-Ion system, my hatred for AA batteries has grown deeper and I'm hoping to eliminate receivers. I know they've come out with the respective FT16 style compatible with the X1 system, but for some reason I'm hesitant to go with flashes that do not have TTL even though I shoot manual 90% of the time. TTL is only used for my on camera fill flash at wedding receptions/events, and I will use TTL at times with my AD-360II when it is used as a single travel light for portraits. I guess I like to have redundancy for backup reasons. If I only have a single TTL speed light, then I have no redundancy should that light die.

Thoughts?

I hear you about TTL. Can't remember the last time I used it, but seems like it would be handy to have for a just in case thing. I've been thinking about those flashes as well. Was just about to order 860C when I saw the announcement.

Since we are on the subject I'm curious. What kind of battery life do you get with these? I have a specific need where I will need to shoot around 150-200 shots, probably half power over a period 4 hrs. My first thought was to buy a strobe and a godox power pack. The pack adds complexity I don't really want. Changing batteries during the event is more problematic though.

The specs say the Ving system should do what I want, but you know how marketing works. Do you think 860 would be up to the task on a single charge?

The manual states you get 650 1/1 pops off a full charge.

They are unbelievable. I don't keep track of pops or power, but I do know I'm getting about 4x the life of 2700 mAh Powerex in my 430exII. I've used them all day for weddings including my on camera fill and have never dipped below 1/2 power hence the reason I'd like to pick up the new version. Having the built in receiver will be icing on the cake. Right now I have the old version and just put the FT16 on the X1. I'm loving this system!

Hi.

It's the V860IIC (Canon). I've started an attempt at keeping track of the variants here:

As long as the battery is interchangeable, it doesn't matter to me which boat delivers it!

Good to hear they're using a different supplier. My original V860Cs have pretty much been paper weights about 2 years ago. The batteries literally die over a short period of time... less than 5 recharges. Hopefully these will work as designed.

This sounds like you had that very early generation of batteries (and even here, the problem batteries seem to have been limited to a couple bad batches).

I had exactly the same problem with the V850s that I had. Both batteries dies within a couple of months of getting them. I managed to get the supplier to replace them FOC the first time but when they deteriorated again the supplier went quiet so I got rid of them and went back to Eneloop AA powered speedlights.
