Contemplating adding a 35mm prime. Tons of reviews comparing these two lenses, but at the end they all seem to qualify the reviews with the price difference (as in because the Sigma is so much cheaper, it's a no-brainer). But now these two lenses are only separated by $100, so basically negligible. So with that in mind, what would be the better buy?

the sigma is sharp wide open. the 35L is sharp at f2. my choice was between the sigma and the canon 35 F2 IS. I chose the canon.

Im with this guy. Was in the same boat. But got the Sigma. The focus issues you read about... all true, for me at least.

I sold the Sigma and am waiting for the 35mm f2 IS to go back on sale.

I have the sigma 35 1.4. It was back focusing badly when I got it. Tried to fix with the dock and I got it pretty close. Lucky for me I live about 90 minutes from sigma service NY. I took a ride out there and they calibrated it to my 6d. It's perfect now

I've tried the Sigma but like many had focus issues. After hours with the dock, didn't seem to help much. I tried the 35L but everything except for the center column af point would front focus with my 5D3. Does the 35 f2 IS focus on all af points?

My 35mm f2 IS focuses all points without problem. It feels like my 85mm 1.8

I bought a month ago Canon EF 35 f/1.4 L II lens because a needed a wide bright lens that i could trust the focussing system.
It has great color and contrast, great bokeh. In every aspect the Sigma is so close to my new Canon 35 mm lens, but I can't trust the focus!

Seems like the 35Lii is the way to go but still so expensive! I feel like that's why so many debate 35L and Sigma 35.

I am all for the Sigma 35mm ART. I've had no issues with it, and love the clarity and color. I also did a lot of research between the two and decided with the sigma. I don't regret it at all.

When the Sigma 35 came out I bought the Sigma and borrowed the 35L through the CPS loaner program and sampled them side by side. On my 5D2, the Sigma performed better and was sharper wide open than was the Canon. (taking photos of the same things and at the same time of day, same light etc.)

I don't regret on buying Canon 35 1.4 L II.
I recently bought Canon 85 1.4 L IS - superb lens!
