DIY battery reconditioning?

I have a few batteries for my HDV camera (XHA1s) BP-945 s that the charge seems to drop every time a little lower after charging. Is it possible to just hook a small light to bring them down lower than they are going, in order to reset the charge level?

You can put any resistive device across the terminals and it will continue to draw down the battery but make sure the resistance is high enough that you do not damage the battery. Li-ion batteries fail spectacularly when shorted.

But as the batteries are Li-ion, they do not really reset well and unlike some other rechargeable, they have a limited lifetime. Running them all the way down each charge reduces it's life as does charging them all the way.

You cannot defeat the loss of capacity that Lithium ion battery experiences simply with age...it is NOT solely number of charge cycles. When a lithium battery is manufactured, its life clock starts running and you can not do anything to reverse the aging.

Okay, I just ordered some new batteries. I only use the cameras with arteries for weddings now anyway. Not that many of those either. Hoping to move into XA-25a later this year.

But you can accelerate it. Heat is the major factor that ages LI-Ion batteries prematurely. In laptops, that happens first with using it on the lap or anywhere else that insulates the computer instead of giving it clear space all around.

It also happens with excessive charging time, which heats the battery. Short charge periods (even on trickle chargers) work better than lots of deep discharges and the resulting long, hot charge times. It's actually better for laptops to remove the batteries when using mains power...but that's pretty much too much hassle for anyone.

Do not do that with Li-Ion batteries! We will read about you dying from a camera exploding in your face.

Li-Ion batteries are very likely to explode when totally discharged and then charging is attempted. The smart devices they're normally used in (not counting dodgy Chinese knockoff stuff) are smart enough to cut use of their Li-Ion batteries before their completely discharged. So when your Canon camera says the battery is depleted--it's not really totally depleted.

But if you use a DIY device that truly depletes it, you're heading for a serious accident.

I was thinking that reconditioning batteries is a big lie , after reading many online reviews I figured out it is real .
I read about EZ ( http://pharazone.com …ning-program-review-2017/ ) and purchased the pdf guide , I managed to restore an old battery thrown for more than 2 years ( spent 10$ ) and I got it working like charm again !

They don't need reconditioning, but there is a new generation of smart batteries and smart chargers than require periodic mutual calibration. With those, you need to periodically used the battery in its device until it tells you it needs a recharge (all the segments are gone). Then give it a full charge. After that, you can just do partial discharges for a while until it needs another calibration.
