Noticed alot of you have Canon dedicated flash. I used to do weddings with film and use Metz flashes which were off to the side to avoid red eye. How does everyone use there flash....can you give me an idea.....On the camera or with a bracket.......post your answers I want a sampling.

Thanks

I use Canon flashes, on a flip bracket, directly above the lens to stop side shadow on walls behind the photo.

That is one insane on-flash softbox! :) I take it you don't do too many weddings with that thing... ;)

Hello,

Newbie here.....The softbox used on the camera........interesting. I am doing my 1st wedding in May and was wondering if you think that I will benefit from using something like your setup. I have a Canon 300D and the Canon 550EX flash unit. Love both, but need to make sure my wedding photos are great. Any ideas for lighting?

Have a great day,
Janet

:p

Metz flash on Newton flash flip bracket , directly above the lens to stop side shadow on walls behind the photo, and with a Chimera XS softbox (12x16 for wedding) or Wescott Micro Apollo softbox (5x8 for events)

In transition...used to be I shot weddings with med format film, Metz45CT and softbox. Now, trying to figure out best solution to permit softbox use with my new Metz54MZ and my 20D. Still experimenting, as I go to weddings as a guest (thanks to friends who have kids getting married and I can experiment with setups while providing free secondary coverage to complement what the hired gun is providing!).

I use both in weddings. Softbox is great when there isn't a ceiling or wall to bounce from.

I can imagine it'd work awesome...but dang...doesn't it get smacked around a lot? Seems cumbersome to me.

yes sometimes. But it is great to shoot pre-ceremony outdoors and post ceremony outdoors. Where there isn't much you can bounce the LS2 against. Most of the banquet the LS2.
