Brown Hooded Kingfisher

Shot at Ndarakwai Camp near West Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania.

The birds in this country are out of this world. The colours are "electric" to put it mildly. I'd never seen a Kingfisher in person before so this was a nice find: it was sitting on a branch outside of the camp gates when we started our first game drive.

Kingfishers are probably my favorite bird I never get the chance to shoot. They always seem to be photogenic. Thanks for sharing him.

Wow, are you sure you didn't Photoshop some other bird's head onto that body? Well done.

Man, kingfisher is one of the most wanted birds on my list. So far i have zero luck. You did a great job capturing this beauty.

Great shots, Joe. The first shot is my favorite of the two. The subject, color, sharpness, pose, bokeh...all are terrific. I even like the fact that it's sitting on an angled branch, rather than a horizontal one.

Why is it that tropical birds and animals tend to have more colors?
