My 14 year old daughter doesn't have an account on here, but I am posting these for her. She shot next to me at one of the games and knocked off some nice shots that I even sent over to the office. I am very proud of her. She just went through a film photography class in high school and even tried to do manual focusing. Probably not very useful during a game, but she tried it as that is what they did for the class.

I had no greater joy than when my high school daughter shot some games and events with me. I learned very quickly she has a very different eye than I do. The most telling was a high school football championship where she captured interesting geometric shapes of the venue. She had her share of action shots as well, but she sees stuff that never even crossed my mind.

I'll add she's now off in college and is building a successful portrait business as well as shooting for the college's yearbook.

I might have found a new favorite lens for basketball. I was impressed by focus accuracy, and since I was able to shoot at f/1.4 I was able to lower my ISO quite a bit. The focal length works great for me also. I don't find myself cropping near as much, and I never felt like I was shooting too tight.

Classic youth basketball: One teammate is screaming for the ball, another is trying to take it away from you, and the defender didn't quite survive the collision...

this is very interesting... they tried to sell me the 6dII when I went in to look at the 5dIII and 7dII... does the lack of auto focus points not spread out become an issue? would love to hear more about your results and opinions....

Again, I would not get a 6D2 for basketball/sports, but that is me. Salesmen are not always photographers, and probably depending on the store you go to, they are never photographers, just people holding down a retail job and want to sell whatever they glean the largest commission on.

You can read through this request over on FM too. You will see nobody steps in to provide glowing results of the 6D2 for their basketball shooting. That, in itself, is a telltale sign. Can it work? Yes in various situations. Will you have missed shots that confuse you as to why? Of course. Will there be action that will be very difficult to capture with the 6D2? Yes. Is it the best option you have available to you for sports? No.

Why not post this over on your thread, so we can discuss it there? :)

I was going to give the 6DII a good testing and review for basketball, but I only shot one game with it. Soon after, I got a great deal on a 5DIV and jumped on it, so the 6DII is just waiting for me to sell it.

For the little I used it, I wasn’t unimpressed - it’s a nice camera. I do use the outer points of the 5DIV, mostly in vertical orientation, which I guess the 6DII doesn’t have.
