I did last night's set of games, and never took my 70-200 out of the bag. I am loving this 85mm 1.8.

NY Extreme Hoops

Finally done with our small schools season. Hate the dark and strangely colored elementary school gyms!

One from the weekend:

My basketball season is over. I shoot a youth sports league and sell 4"x6" prints to parents. It was a tough season - We have 82 teams that play Saturdays only on 5 courts in 3 separate gyms (each with its own lighting issues). There's just not a lot of time to achieve my goal, which is to get good shots of as many different players as possible. It's an 8 week season so I have 7 weeks to get the shots (I sell on the final Saturday). The task was even harder this year, as my Mom passed away the morning of week one and another Saturday I was too weak from the flu to lift my camera. I was still able to get shots 77 of the teams and I would estimate about 70 percent of the players.

I upgraded to the 5DIV this year and was pleased with its performance. Because I print almost 3,000 shots, there's not a lot of time for editing - just a quick crop and possibly slight exposure adjustment. I had issues with my white balance (user error, not camera). Usually this wouldn't matter much since I mostly shoot RAW, but because of the number of shots, I went with JPEG this season.

The kids range in age from Kindergarten to 9th grade.

I always run a custom WB at the games, first thing I do. I also shoot M mode with auto-ISO with +1/3 EC. It is hard to get a good WB in many school gyms though, since they have a mix of lights. They never seem to have enough money to do a full switchover, so they do it in phases. Makes it very difficult...

I have also just created my first custom picture style, looks better than the ones in-camera. I will be using that this weekend.

Since I try to extract as much shutter speed as I can from the 5D4, I rarely shoot over f3.2. I also sometimes hit the 25600 range, and am often into 16K territory.

Most likely my last game to shoot for the season. The Southern Oregon Women Raiders have had a great season (26-3), thanks in great part, to this girl.

been away from shooting hoops for a while but sine my two youngest are now playing I began shooting it again. This is a bit of a cross post but I wanted to join the mix here. All of these are shot with micro 4/3rds gear (Olympus OMD EM5 MkII and Olympus 75mm f1.8). I've been determined to get a system down for settings, shooting and processing that would make the tiny mirrorless setup workable for indoor sports (still shooting DLSR outside). I'm not fully there yet but getting closer.

Scott, you most certainly haven't lost your touch! Wonderful captures (and I know how very special they are for you). I believe you need to level your horizon in the last capture. (Ha! [wink] Thanks to you, I am very cognizant of that issue. ¡Gracias! Grazie!)

Some shots from McNeese's Women's Basketball game this past Monday. Three of these are wider shots I took from behind the baseline near the basket, I took them with my 24-70mm F/2.8 II. I did take other tighter shots with my 70-200mm F/2.8 II.
