Very similar numbers, 1/800th is my desperation speed (1/800th really scares me at the pro level, but that's a small part of my job). My goal for minimum is 1/1250 - 1/2000. Life definitely got better when I went FF.

I have been using 1/800 for years in the crap lighting university gyms I shoot in. You can get good results at this SS.

I had recently had a conversation with a collegue who has been doing this at least 15 years longer than I. We were talking about what HS playoff games we had each shot on Friday night. During that conversation, as usual ;-)a, the topic of lighting comes up. He said he was forced to shoot @ 1/800. I was slightly surprised to find that he goes that slow very often without any fears. Probably being over cautious, but a faster SS also helps when I'm not so steady.

You don't need to worry about your shake at that shutter speed. Once you get past 1/400th on a lens like the 70-200, any blur is likely motion blur.

I LIKE THE SHOTS, but the color seems off, not saturated, or hazy... arena lights are tough...
