I like the angle. Changing it up a bit or not allowed on floor due to covid?

I have a buddy who shoots for the AP. Soon after I started for the paper, he fell off his roof and shattered both his ankles. He would shoot from the stands or "media row". I thought the shots would suffer and was surprised the AP assigned him. I never care what other people shoot, but I made it a point to seek out his images the next day. I was surprised to see that they "worked". I started paying some attention and found other photogs changing up the angles also. As a noob, I was sure that under the basket was the only place to be.

airbutchie THREAD STARTER Not too crunchy ![]() More info Post edited over 1 year ago by airbutchie. (2 edits in all) | Mar 03, 2022 09:00 | #717 To add to the discussion, I use to shoot for the LA Clippers (NBA Entertainment) from 2010-2016... The baseline underneath the basket was where you want to be... It's where 90% of the shots you see in the media outlets were captured... It was also reserved for many of the media outlets (AP, Sports Illustrated, NBA Entertainment, etc.)... But it wasn't the ONLY place to get good shots... I've been all over the place in the arena and captured a good deal of photos... Media row, player tunnels, high above in the bleeder-seats... It also depends on your assignment that game... Sometimes they want photos of specific players... Sometimes they want shots of the crowd... Sometimes they want photos of the celebrities... It just depends... Hi. My name is Butch...

Great insight. When you shoot for a small paper like me, you have ALL the assignments. LOL Player tunnels is a great place to shoot. It's the places like media row and the stands that surprised me. Seen some great shots from up there. A buddy mounts a wide angle behind the glass at the opposite end that he sits. Triggered with a pocket wizard. He eventually gets some good shots, just so many to go through because every time he takes a shot the one mounted also fires. Never had the use of flashes, however.

Great shots. That would be tough, shooting a sport where the subject(s) are backlit from the bright sky and you're down low shooting up.
