You might find that the SD cards are faster?!
A friend of mine used to have the 1D3 and the fastest cards, most raw files before the buffer fills and quickest to clear the buffer, were the Sandisk Extreme iii 8GB SD cards - don't even know if they still sell them. He got his information from Rob Galbraith's site but, unfortunately I can't find the 1D3 listed anymore.
The Sandisk Extreme iii 8GB cards were faster than any CF card that we had in that camera - very unusual as SD cards are normally slower.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

Good point! I do have some Class 10 SDHC cards for my 70D (which is now for sale). I try them later and post up results. Grandson is on the way over for the night, now. At 6, he is quite a handful for us!

They have got to be worth a try - you already have them so there is no expense involved.

Final follow-up. And it is SDHC for the win! Ok, my SD cards are new & top-shelf, my CF cards are from the Stone-Age. One thing I did not expect: Setting the 'card' to SWITCH (when full) slows something down. Turning it off (STANDARD) increased my shooting depth. Odd.

The numbers: (Canon rates the 1D3 @ 29 raw, 110 LJPG (Quality=8), I used LJPG Quality=10.

133X CF: 41 raw, 130 LJPG
200X CF: 41 raw, no test

633X SDHC: 43 raw, 150 LJPG
1000X SDHC: 43 raw, 156 LJPG

Clearly faster cards won't help much, if at all. As a side note, I put over 1000 shots on my shutter doing this testing. I had 70% left on the battery. Nice. Oh, sold the 70D today, too. Pretty sure I need a 24mm f/1.4 A. Damn G.A.S.!
