I am looking for a travel shoulder bag. I have gone thru a few shoulder bags and have not find the right one. My main requirements are:

- slim and not bulky (tall is ok, wide and thick are not)
- fits: a 6d + 17-40, space to carry a 2470 or Rx100
- secure/hidden pockets to carry money, passport, phone etc..
- water and dust resistance
- comfortable to carry for long under hot weather
- budget of under 60USD

Nice to haves:
- something to carry a travel tripod such as the mefoto series
- something to hold a water bottle
- a 10" tablet compartment

I have tried:
- think tank UD35: too bulky and shoulder pain after using it for hours
- lowepro passport sling: size is right but feels the strap is going to break after putting a 6d+1740 in it

Any suggestions?

Dear KENWOOD 33,

Like you, after years of admitted, but somewhat embarrassing, bag iterations with evolving & changing photography applications
(e.g. back packs, slings, shoulders, rollers, etc. you name it - I unfortunately likely have had it), here are my suggestions, given YOUR criteria & keeping in mind that bags are such an individual decision & preference...
(view the Think Tank videos of each bag)

First Suggestion:
Think Tank Lily Deanne Mezzo or Lucido:

https://www.thinktankphoto.com …lucido?variant=8749210883 (external link)
- definitely meets your criteria (except not under $60 USD) - it's a great, I mean GREAT bag!! (I have the black Mezzo)
- particularly with your hidden pocket & dust proof requirement.
- it's not "girlie", just marketed as one; but objectively has a subtle/conservative profile, is suited for women, or real men.

Second suggestion:
Lowepro Passport III, but you've tried that.
- meets your price point; while still a nice bag but, my travelling experience, can understand your comment, but after extensive use, my Passport III has held up very well & still looks pristine.

Third Suggestion:
ThinkTank City Walker 20 or 10:
https://www.thinktankphoto.com …ker-20?variant=1247279095 (external link)
https://www.thinktankphoto.com …ker-10?variant=1247270703 (external link)
- good for travelling with its flexible/comfortable body-conforming nature.
- still over, but a bit closer to your price threshold.
- large inner zipper pocket, but external top is a flap only, (not zippered).

Good luck.
Just one view...

Mary
P.S. (no affiliation to Think Tank Photo - just a very satisfied customer, with a taste for convenience, function, & manufacturing design & quality excellence).

Thanks for your suggestions. I have other think tank products and am happy with their quality. After doing some research, I am now aiming for the now discontinued Tamarc Aria 6. It is very light well, not bulky and fits my gears. The only downside is the lack of secure pockets, which is not a huge deal as I can make my pockets and put them inside the tablet compartment.

I am also unsure about its comfort level. I have to go find a store that still sell this and try it out.

KENWOOD33,

The TAMRAC ARIA 6 is a good choice as a minimalist bag...
- the design, I think, dates back at least 10yrs, but is still valid
- it is simple, quality is ok, (but not the same enduring high-quality of Think Tank products).
- it is relatively comfortable (as long as you don't overload it)
- super light-weight
- it does have a convenient large inner zipper pocket (satisfying your secure pocket requirement)
- also has a 10" tablet compartment
- zippers pulls are a bit thin (not that robust, but acceptable)
- the outside either end-pockets are convenient, but a bit small to be too practical (ok for sun glass case, or small water bottle, but not a large water bottle)
- while satisfactory, the bright silver outer clasp/buckle is a bit awkward relative to the light-weight of the bag and can "clang" onto surfaces when you put the bag down on a surface & open the bag. (minor point)

I use a black Tamrac Aria 6, for my assistant to have over his shoulder positioned towards the back of his waist (to carry my Lowel GL-1 LED
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzS8CLowzwc (external link) (1:50 minute video)
with spare battery & modifiers & 2 600EX-RT's just in case I need some quick run & gun or light painting), while he also has, hand holds a Profoto B1 strobe on a folded lightstand or monopod, on-location for weddings/events, etc.

Have fun with & enjoy whatever you decide.

Mary
