To update, Canon returned my camera, extender, and lens (a second time) and said there were no issues with any of them. Only a microadjustment was performed, but that was after the first return and I'd already tested the camera since then and still my images aren't sharp.
The rep (I'm working with one person.) said that the exif data did not indicate any user issues.
Two weeks of rain with at least another to go. When I can finally shoot again, if I still have the problem, I'm going back to Canon and shooting with the rep to see if he can tell me anything.
I hated being in your situation but I was. I kept second guessing myself.... wondering what I was doing wrong. I know the vast majority of 7D2s are working well, as the main 7D2 thread shows daily. My situation was a bit different because mine worked flawlessly for 10 months, then everything was fuzzy/muddy or pick your own adjective. Mine went back to Canon twice.... during its second trip back, I bought a used 1D IV, really for my own sanity. I figured I could eliminate myself as the source of the problems if another camera body worked well with my 100-400ii. It was an extreme solution, but it enabled me to tell Canon what I'd done and that my 7D2 would be returning again and again until it was right. As a result, they replaced my 7D2 with a brand new one... not a refurb.
My point is...... you will have to make sure your technique isn't the problem... and from there, find a way to get Canon to either fix the problem but better yet, get a replacement camera.
