Evening grosbeaks rarely visit our property. But a few months back, I finally got good shots of a male. And today I finally got the female.

Great shots, Al. Like the comp. in the first. As said, incredible detail in #2-don't believe I've ever seen a beak that clean.:-)

Thank you all very much; I appreciate your taking the time to comment. I recall when I was young, how relatively common were evening grosbeaks; not so any more. They are always fun when they do show up.

Very nice Al, not as flashy as the male yet very distinctive. I've had my usual bunch here all winter, emptying the feeders regularly.

I think that's a real part of the joy of bird photography, to be able to study a bird at length and marvel over their construction. We have three grosbeak species here, but I have never seen some of the others scattered around the country. Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed them.
