So I am looking for a new zoom lens for my d5200. I was planning on going FX but money keeps coming up short for various reasons. I would like to move to FX eventually and thought itd be nice to have a lens already but at this point I figure Ill probably keep my DX (whatever it is) for a backup so Ill want a lens for it anyway. Id like to keep it under $500 and dont mind refurbs. Any help would be appreciated

I'm not a Glamour expert, but I shoot semi-fashion at times and have a friend who publishes a lot of the photos you're talking about. He shoots most everything with a 24-70, but rarely shoots wide open. If you're going to be shooting F4 or smaller most of the time, a used or refurbished 24-120 VR comes to-mind. I ran that lens for a couple of years and it did a fantastic job. As sharp as you want to be, plus great color and contrast. The VR worked well for me too. If a zoom was not mandatory, I would look really hard at the 50mm prime. Or since you're running DX, you can get the combo of a DX 35mm prime, then maybe the older 85mm 1.8D, but still stay within your budget. My 2 cents.
