Hi everyone Im selling my canon 1d mark ii on ebay and someone asked for the serial number. Why would someone ask for this what info can you get from it?

Thanks for the reply. So say it was stolen canon would have a list and my serial # would be on it? NJ

However, manufacturers often have recalls tied to a specific block of serial numbers; the s/n confirms that you actually have/had the camera in your possession (which is why many people photograph it); and a s/n can serve as an independent check on the age of the camera. So there are a number of reasons someone could want to know your camera's serial number when you offer it for sale. Jon
