I'll be hiking a lot this summer in the sun and looking for recommendations on a good hat that will protect my neck, nose, and ears while not being a total PITA to shoot with. Any recommendations?

protects nose, and ears, especially when the front cover mask is in place

I have not totally resolved the 'PITA' consideration, but AF makes it easier to use and a Foreign Legion style cover protects the neck, like this https://www.gentlemansemporium.com …edia/004358/004358_01.jpg (external link)

Another vote for the Tilley, had mine 15 years, it's been worn in the sun so much it's been bleached nearly white from medium olive, and in the rain, I often don't even notice it's raining until I look down and all the water cascades off the rim. I know they're not trendy, but, if you want a practical hat, then buy a practical hat, baseball caps etc don't cut the mustard......

I'm going to be shooting in the sun all summer, so I'm getting ready to order one of these from Duluth Trading Co.:

Another vote for Tilley. I got tired of turning around a baseball cap. My dermatologist also voted for something with better sun protection than the cap. I like the fact that the brim just moves out of the way when I shoot

i bought an awesome baseball cap with a peak at the back. It was really hard to find but it's great at keeping the back of my neck protected from the sun.

Another +1 for Outdoor Research. I've had the OR Helios for 3 years and love it. I wear it pretty much all summer when outside - photography, theme parks, games, yard work, in the pool / water, etc... just a great hat for everything that I can crush into my cargo pockets if needed. It gets alot of abuse and tossed in the wash when needed. I did remove the strap though as I don't need it. With a camera sling and messenger style bag, it's just one more thing to get tangled up with. OR Helios - http://www.amazon.com …rge-Fatigue/dp/B005BVXZUK (external link)

How about one of these (external link)?? :)

When I was looking for hats I tried one of those on and got the idea that having the thing rubbing on my neck all day would get to be annoying. Ended up just buying a dopey looking broad brimmed hat.

I just got one a few weeks ago and really like it. I've had very good luck with Duluth Trading Co. I like their newish quick dry cargo shorts. http://www.duluthtrading.com …13.aspx?processor=content (external link)

I've been wanting to try their shorts for a while. I've heard nothing but good things about their product.

I am not sure which of those hats i should choose, but in my country i wear our traditional head cover and we have a sun that is stronger than yours and i am just getting used to it, but i think when i travel i won't wearing my traditional dress, wish i can wear it in USA and Europe.
