Hi all.
how many owners of this camera are none pro/serious ameture toggers?
The reason i ask is because it seems that if you are not a pro shooting sports and wildlife, this camera is overkill and its best to wait for a 5d upgrade instead?
Thoughts?
I think you might be mis-guided on what a "pro" photographer is. By most accounts, and I think most would agree, a pro photographer is someone that relies on photography to generate their income. Truth be told, that usually means they spend 80% of their time as a small business owner, marketing specialist, and salesman. 20% of their time is spent doing actual photography. Some are great at their photography and some are actually quite average. But the fact that they rely on photography to put the bread on the table makes them a "pro" in the public's eye.
There is also an entirely other class of photographers that simply love creating beautiful images. There are tons of them out there, and their skills are superb. (Just look at the work they are posting here in this very thread.) They are able to fully utilize the features that the Canon 1D X Mark II brings to the table. The camera is not overkill in the slightest. It simply provides more features and capabilities.
When it comes to buying a camera (or a lens for that matter), it boils down to what features you need, desire, and can afford. It's as simple as that. A camera does not make a great photographer. Never has and never will. A camera does not make someone a pro and it never will. It is just a static item that provides certain features and nothing more.
Weigh and discuss the various factors as they apply to you. Buy what you need or what you desire. Buy what you can afford. That is all it really comes down to.
Cheers,
Bryan
