I wonder if the Dual Pixel RAW feature is going to come to the 1DX Mark II via a firmware update? The technology does look quite interesting: https://www.youtube.com …9MSRRvn4&feature=youtu.be (external link)

I think Canon wants you to park a 5Div next to your 1DXii.
We added 5Dsr three weeks ago, and knowing the 5Div was looming--now that the specs are out of the bag I'd get
the 5Dsr all over again.

Julian I forgot, I got this one at home so we kinda have dark skies when we can actually see the skies :)
The important thing for me was seeing that I'd use the same 30s exposure at ISO 8000 as I would with the
A7Rii.
Now I've played with the 1DXii for a while I can say that if Sony is still ahead it is by very little and that gap should be
even smaller with the 5Div.

Dammit, but I already have 2 1DX Mark IIs and a 5DsR -- I think I've spent enough on cameras this year :p

Then be like me and have no interest in the 5Div, it would had to have had more than 42mp for me to be interested or 10 fps, e.g. beat
my A7Rii or beat my 7Dii/1Div.....and well we knew it wouldn't come close to the 1DXii.
Really after using the 1DXii for a while now the only two stand out dislikes are the 2 different cards set up and the limited touch screen.
You know something that can do everything can never be best at anything=5Div
But then again, it's always good to have a Swiss-Army knife in your pocket.

Yeah, I toyed with the settings. at 6400 and 30sec, my skies are already getting too bright and having difficulty bringing it back down. This is at f/4 even. Too much light pollution is my guess. But I'll confess, I'm quite the noobie when it comes to trying to process the Milky Way.

To me between 50.6 and 30.1 there is no comparison. Plus the downsampling ability of the 5Dsr is crazy cool.
Surely Canon has increased the DR of the 5Div's sensor, maybe? Only time will tell.
I never liked the 5Diii; I'd grab the 6D for low light, or grab the 7Dii for speed. The 5Div reminds me more of
the 5Diii (excepting video ability) than the 5Dsr......just my 0.02 :)

Well I let all the pundits weigh the pro's/con's of the 5Div, me, I'm eagerly awaiting the Oly OMD M1 mk ii and/or
the GH5 announcement. I carry a GX8 everyday everywhere so that's probably more important to me than
which EOS body can outdo the other.

What a gorgeous image of the hollyhocks!

Thank you very much. Every time I use the 1dx2, I'm amazed at what it can do and how easily it does it.

MedicineMan4040 wrote in post #18105425 (external link)
Don't you love that lens! It is among my chosen three for a minimal setup with the 1DXii, along
with the 16-35/4, the 24-70/4 and a 1.4TCiii. Between what the 100-400ii and the 24-70/4 can
do macro-wise for me there is no reason to tote a separate macro lens.

I'm pre-ordering the new 24-105 II today. If it improves over the current 24-105 the way the 100-400 II did over its predecessor, the new 24-105 will be excellent. In the meantime, my trusty 70D + 15-85 will continue serving as my wide angle solution. I've used the 1.4TCiii + 100-400 II on the 1dx2 a little bit. It seems to play very nicely.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

Great news fellow Canon 1D X II owners! Canon is about to release a significant firmware update (1.1) for the 1DX2. There are a lot of new features being added and while they are largely aimed towards the press photographer, some of these things can and will be useful for many of us. Yes, I was hoping for additional touch screen functionality, but perhaps that is coming later on down the road. ;-)a

For a complete discussion on all of the new features, check out Rudy's article here:

Cheers,
Bryan

I was hoping for the dual-pixel raw that the 5D4 is getting...

Again, maybe later. :)

Unless there's a hardware limitation I'd assume it's mostly firmware, so entirely likely.

Now here's hoping for a 5D4 firmware upgrade to 9fps and AF point linked metering ;)

Yeah, those are likely... :)

I'd guess that the 7FPS limit is about data path issues. With one processor and 30MP files you're not going to be able to dump data to the card(s) fast enough to support more than 7 FPS. I'm actually impressed that they go that fast considering the 1Dx has twice the processing power, 2/3 the file size, supports cFast and only sports twice the frame rate.

AF point linked to metering should be entirely possible in firmware but is likely a 1 series feature in Canon's mind.
