Yeah, I noticed that the Adobe Standard profile had more muted colors than the 1DX in general, but either (a) fiddling with saturation/vibrance a bit or (b) using Camera Standard with zero NR helps.

Here's a quick ISO 10000 image I shot to take a look at the dynamic range.

The jpeg soc crushes the blacks a little and you lose some fine detail in the shadows, note the chair, but in the RAW you get all of the details in the shadows, and the highlights pull down quite nicely. But there's practically zero noise to my eye in it even with the soc jpeg. Usable all day long in my opinion.

Here's the RAW file to play with if anyone wants to take a go at it.

In all honesty, most of Canon's jpg profiles just suck. Which one, out of interest, generated this picture? Here is 3 seconds playing with the raw in LR.

You may want to try and then play with the new Fine Detail Profile,
- reduce the Contrast by -1 or -2
- Increase the Saturation by +1 or +2
- under Sharpness, increase Strength +1 and Threshold by +1 or +2

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Standard profile, highlight priority turned on, high ISO noise reduction turned off.

Also, when are they going to add the Mark II as an option for CPS registration? :p

I just listed my new one as a 1Dx and it took the serial number... :)

dang it I got my 1Dx back in October...when I ordered I asked if a newer version was eminent & they told me no...I wasn't hip to the "rumors" ...I love the 1Dx ,but sure am wishing I'd waited...
I ordered a "II" but then cancelled the order cause I really couldn't justify buying it when I only have a couple thousand clicks on the 1Dx...
but it's killing me....:/

It's the reason why I buy these things relatively new. Yes, I am paying a premium but at least I get some peace of mind that a new version won't be released 6 months from now. (Certainly can't say that if I were to buy a Sony A7-something R III/IV/V will be released before the camera is even shipped. Hahahaha...)

Well. 1DX will continue to be an excellent camera. You know that, we all know that. Just go out and shoot more with it and stay away from the 1DX2 threads for a good 6-12 months. Once that dust settles... then you hopefully won't want one by then. Hopefully.

now that we too can have the camera, articles like this may have lost luster, but Marina is a heck of a photograph, so I liked getting her take on the camera.

Adorama only charges you $100 as a "Good Faith" amount. If you are seeing a $5,899 charge on your account, that means your camera is about to ship! Next step is to continually refresh the Details section of your order. Once it goes to either Invoiced or Shipped, then you'll know its definitely on its way. You can usually see this change in the Details section of your order about 2-6 hours before you'll receive the automated email that gives you your tracking number.

Cheers,
Bryan

I sold my 5D Mark III, my 7D Mark II, and a couple of my parachutes to justify the upgrade. Go for it...life only happens once!

Cheers,
Bryan
