If I ever needed cost justification this shot is it. Nowhere near great but ISO 25,000.
I bought into th 1DXii for high ISO performance, it granted in spades this evening.
The hawk didn't come around until just after the Sun had set. I still wanted a shot and put
the machine into auto-ISO, picked the shutter and aperture I would want even if I'd had good
light (like that ever happens here). The 1DXii did its job-

Beautiful.... so has your keeper rate been increasing? You mentioned you were working on it... so an update would be appreciated.

I enjoy your trips vicariously. Thanks for taking so much time to share with us.

Thank you Phoenix, very kind of you.
Yep, I'm way better with the 1D machine now....always room to improve eh but really enjoying the camera.
One thing stumped me from beginning and still stumps me. For 90% of my daytime shots it exposes hot meaning I dial
down exposure comp usually 1 full stop--then all is good. I've never had a camera do that before, and I should say that
90% of my use with the 1DXii is in manual mode...I like to choose my shutter and aperture and put ISO on auto...not having
to worry about high ISO is one of the beauties of this camera.
Now that I know (assigned a button) how to push the set button and spin the dial while holding set button in I can freely/quickly
move my exposure comp around--that is yet another plus I love about it.

Now come first of December I'll have a a99ii to play with. Should be big fun comparing those two :)

If you are coming from a 5d2 / 5d3 then Canon for sure increased the exposure - but this has been consistent since the 7d2 and 5dsr whereby, unlike the older 5d2/3, there is no reason to add +2/3rd EV automatically - but I would not describe these new cameras overexposing.

The above said, and it is a style thing, there was a certain wedding I shot where with my 5dsr with a Tamron 85 for portriats with one camera, I shot every picture at -2/3ev and loved them and with my main 1dxii with the 24-70, I exposed with auto ISO as the starting point and was equally happy.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

thanks everyone - kid on the camera left just held him off - they passed me at 50 yards and ran it shoulder to shoulder all the way to the line - the crowd, over 1000, was going nuts - it was epic

found both sets of kid's parents through emailing their schools and the parents were ecstatic to get the photo

Quick question for my fellow 1dx2 folks, hope you guys can give me some advice on.

For those who've kept up with this thread, remember back when I posted some architectural photos (of my friend's remodeled condo)? The designer of the project is asking to use some of my photos for his upcoming updated website to showcase his work. Any idea what the going rate might/would be for something like this?

I was thinking, of the ~50 processed photos that he can choose from, I'd charge him a flat fee for upto... 8 images. And any extra, it would be $$ more per. I just don't know what the going rate (if there is a going rate) would be on something like this as I don't shoot professionally.

Thanks!

J
