Thank you for the kind words. I did not have the 1D X. I went to the 1DX2 from a 7D2. Definitely an awesome jump! I also have a 5D4. Whenever I do wildlife (even if it's chainsaw woodcarvers), the 1DX2 is my tool of choice. The 5D4 would do a fine job, but the 1DX2 is just so sweet...

FYI - I'm really impressed with the work of Tin Man Lee. He posted a review in the "Camera Reviews" section where he feels the 1DX2 is a very worthy upgrade to the 1DX. That review is here:

Thank you for your thoughts and the link. I have a couple irons in the fire that might allow me to get the 1D X Mark ll more quickly. In the mean time, I'll continue to save $50 a week.

As a reasonably new chainsaw user I must admit I spotted the same. Having said that, the helmets I've seen don't actually stop a blade on kickback, and it seems to be really hard to get jackets rated to stop a chainsaw; so gloves, trousers and shoes seems to be about all you can do.

Something like this is better. Even if the face protection isn't folded down properly here.

Anyone less than thrilled with the iso performance of their 1dx2?

I'm finding anything much beyond iso 800 not much use, particularly on plain coloured surfaces.

Next to the D5 its the best performing ISO camera on the market. Not sure what your after as its the best technology available

It's a little cleaner than my 1DX and blows away my 7DII, so no.

What are you comparing it too?

Are you Shooting RAW, how are you post processing?

Did you try changing the color gamut?

"Picture Style" in the set up menu can over saturate some colors depending on what mode you are in.

Went to the mach loop a couple of weeks ago and took about 3k pictures.

A typhoon was coming through the valley very fast.
I upped the iso to 2000 to be sure of having a high enough shutter speed.
When I viewed/processed the images through canons DPP the grey of the wings looks spotty/blotchy.
I can reduce this with NR but most of the detail is lost by the time the colours look natural.

Is it a problem with grey or large areas of the same colour?

As soon as my computer sorts itself out I WILL post an example.

In truth, I feel my 6D was better with regards signal to noise ratio.
Maybe I should set the camera to full auto and see what happens.

My preferred method is AV mode.

Was the weather pretty crappy in terms of lighting? I've gone through quite a few camera bodies over the past 10 years:

40D, 7D, 5D, 5D3, 1DX, 7D2, 1DX2, 5D4

The 1DX2 is the cleanest of them all in terms of ISO noise. It's not perfect by any means, especially if lighting is crappy. After all, this is photography, capturing photons.
