8 more days to go, not too long now, Derek! If I may ask, what changed your mind back? You were put off the 1DX2 before because of the oil spatter.

After a few weeks, another quick check in and some observations wrt the differences in the 5D4 and 1DX2.

This thing never misses: I'm culling far fewer OOF photos than I did with the 5D4. With the 5D4, I always feel the need to chimp in order to confirm that I have an in-focus shot. That's not even a thing anymore.

Didn't think I'd need or appreciate the 14FPS, but it when shooting birds this inspires confidence in knowing that I got an usable shot, or perhaps a pose/moment that I didn't realize I'd captured. Very cool!

The 100-400II and 1.4xIII are brilliant on this body. On my 5D4 that combo is decent, and I downright hate it on my 80D. It may all come down to the pixel size or something, but when comparing straight results on screen the shots using the 1DX2 just look better. The AF is fast and sure as well, no slow down.

Lack of touch screen and Wifi: not missed. I'm finding out that those are nice to haves, not necessities, for what I shoot. It sounds Luddite-ish, but not having those features is improving my focus on photography because I'm doing far less fiddling with the back of the camera. To me, this is highly refreshing because sometimes (and this goes beyond photography, actually) I want to be less connected and tech'd out.

Overall, this camera is just amazing to shoot with, and I'm totally loving it. It's a great companion to have at hand because of the way it is so direct and no-nonsense in helping you get the shot, and that inspires confidence.

Matt, I found someone who can clean the sensor for me...ME!! Also some friends have said they will advise me on this matter, I have ordered the correct fluid and the swabs, have read up on cleaning the sensor and if all else fails I will find a dark room and cry. I wont machine gun all the time so hopefully this will minimise the oil.

By the way, have you ever held one of these things?
If you have not, just wait until you do!
They feel as solid as a tank and just plain great.

My Incredible day at Washington's Bald Eagle sanctuary on the Skagit River in Concrete Wa.

It was cold, miserable, rainy weather. But as soon as it stopped raining , the eagles started to feed and it was simply a magical day,. Gonna post a few shots

You didn't disclose how many total shots you took, but 500 keepers is insanely impressive considering the subject matter! From what I'm experiencing, this camera doesn't miss too often, it's just so confidence-inspiring. Along with the higher FPS, the more consistent + accurate AF is the biggest advantage I'm seeing over my 5D4. I'm not binning as many shots due to soft/missed focus.
