Dear JWCDDS/Julian,

Thanks, that was helpful. (after I posted, I realized that EXIF info was available - oops, sorry); 500f4 mkII.

Reason I asked - I'm at a bit of a crossroads, in future scoping for when the technological-timing/product life cycle is right for: Canon (5DmkIII 2x replacement) vs Nikon(D810 replacement, or D5) and Sony (a7Rii or replacement for travel). I came from Nikon ten years ago, to the then Canon 1DmkIII for its faster FPS (than Nikon) with a Canon 500f4.

Thanks again.

Mary
P.S. You live in a fun part of the world - Santa Monica, CA!

:D I guess I take Santa Monica for granted, having been around this part of town for so long, I don't bother going to the beach/pier/promenade much.

You will only have the same reach if you crop the 5DSR to APS-C. This will get you roughly the same number of pixels on the subject (~20MP) but as you're capturing light over a smaller area you lose some of the signal-to-noise advantages of the full-frame sensor. (You're effectively shooting with a 7D2).

I also have a 5DSR and I do crop it when I need more reach but I reckon I lose a stop at high-ISO. (If I'm using the full-frame, it's good to ~ISO3200 but only ~ISO1600 when cropped to APS-C). The big advantage that the 5DSR has over an APS-C is that you can take the crop from anywhere in the frame.

I generally only go out birding in good light so iso800 is my norm on the 5Dsr it gives a good shutter speed and crops well

My 1Dx mkII will help if the light drops so it all gives me a few options to play with .

Thanks

Rob.

can someone tell me if the review picture to actual size and AF point is working - mine always goes to the center point and it is pissing me off - thanks

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I have mine set Actual size from selected point and it always goes to selected point. Might want to double check your settings.

Yeah, you need to do the ones lower and avoid the 2x, 4x, ... 10x options. Should be the one just below the 10x mag option. I had it set incorrectly on my first day and I thought I was going nuts. Until I compared it with the 1DX setting and I was like, "oooOOOOOookay."

Mine is set at 1x but I tried at actual size and it worked properly. There is an option below it "Same as last magnif. (from ctr). That did not go to the AF point location and appears to go to the centre.

Quoting from The Digital Picture article on the camera. http://www.the-digital-picture.com …non-EOS-1D-X-Mark-II.aspx (external link)

"Recording 4k at 59.94 fps or 50.00 fps requires 800Mbps of bandwidth and generates 5.7 GB of data per minute.

Recording 4k at 29.97 fps, 25.00 fps, or 23.98 fps requires 500Mbps of bandwidth and generates 3.5 GB of data per minute."

So the minimum you'll need is a card capable of 500Mbps, or roughly 62MB/s throughput for 24/30P, or up to 800Mbps, or ~100MB/s for 60P. That's for write speed.

According to Lexar's site You should, in theory, be able to record 4K at 60P with any card above a 700x rating for write speed (Important). (http://www.lexar.com …1x150kbs-performance-mean (external link))

Note that most cards rate read speed, not write speed, in their XXXx designation. So going up to a minimum of around 1000x card would likely be safe in either CF or Cfast 2.0

Real world, this would mean any CFast 2.0 card on the market will work just fine for 4K60P capture, and higher end CF cards should work as well.

I think i recall several folks have mentioned that with their 1Dx MkII purchase, they got the bundle with CFast card and reader plus a battery. I can't find a deal like that. All I can find is a bundle with Cfast and reader with body. What store offered this? Did you need to do anything special to get the battery deal?

It's just the "Premium Kit", which initially sold for the same price as the Body-Only, so it made no sense not to take advantage of it.

Adorama was throwing in free battery as well the the order. I don't know of anyone else that was doing so.
