While I really love this new camera body there are some consequences to such a high frame rate. shot about 2,000 pictures at an airshow yesterday. Towards the end of the day I had a lot of oil splatter on my sensor. Anyone else getting this? I'm at the Airfield again all day today, I'll share some pictures tonight of what I'm seeing. Cleaning the sensor last night was easy enough but not for the timid

The 1Dx classic is famous for oil spatters as well, really a pain if you shoot f5.6 or smaller.

True, my 1dx body is also the biggest dust magnet that I own. That being said, I was able to learn how to clean sensors really well. comes in handy.

1DX has the same issue. Gotta keep the shutter mechanism well lubricated if you want it to be 14-16fps reliable/durable. :D

I was just wondering how a brand new camera can have the sensor so dirty -?

I throw mine in the dishwasher religiously. Heat cycle with pot scrubber for best results. **Top rack only** (void in TN and UT)

May need to start shooting 4k/60p and grabbing frames to avoid sensor oil splatter. :D

SanDisk CFast reader runs hot after 1/2 hr.

I've noticed the heat generated by the SanDisk reader too. I've never had any sort of card reader or any other USB attached device (expect a HDD) generate this much heat.

No file corruption for me, but certainly got the heat.

Perhaps I'll try a different reader & compare.

Wedding and Event Togs

promedia gear has the L brackets and boomerang brackets in stock

Looks like they fixed the double hook problem on the bottom and fixed the wheel hanging out situation as well

Nice bracket..kind of spendy, but a nice bracket

My 1DX was a dust magnet and im afraid to say the 1DX MKII seems to be the same.

Have got the hang of using sensor swabs and Eclipse fluid now after 4 years of owning the original so its not a problem and does get less frequent as the camera gets older.

Also another very good reason to use DPP and the dust delete data feature although at the moment DPP and other Canon software seems really slow while doing anything with files from this camera.

I don't mind blowing off the odd bit of dust off of the sensor..but don't fancy cleaning the sensor on a regular basis if at all....not an issue on my 7D MkII....and thats been on 10fps since I got it 2 years ago.

Seem to be able to buy a grey import quite easily.....but no official bodies to be had anywhere in the UK.

My 7d2's doing well in the anti-dust department as well, but it is a much smaller sensor, shutter, mirror so that certainly helps it out.

I never shot the APS-H 1D bodies but I don't remember reading/hearing 1D4's troubled by oil splatter issues. But also, smaller sensor, shutter, mirror and not gunning for 12-14, or 14-16 fps helps that out as well.

I think if you're not comfortable cleaning the sensor, the 1DX and 1DX2 might not be the right tool for you.

It's a slight annoyance to deal with, but for me (can't speak for anyone else), it's extremely easy to clone out/remove dust/dots on an image. I wouldn't want to do that for 1000 images (I did shoot over 3000 images at my last airshow) but since 80% of that go straight to the recycle bin (as I was pretending to be heroic dropping down the shutter speed for prop blur), and I only found ~100 or so that I care to share/post, it's not a big deal for me at all. :D YMMV

Never had a problem with any of my crops or my 5DSr either but the 1 DX and it seems the 1DX MKII are going to be well known for it ;-)a

Trouble is that blower bulbs are only any good at shifting dust around or putting more in.

Wet cleans are great for getting rid of oil once you have some confidence and i also use a special pad called Dust Aid along with a sensor loupe and not only do i not have many problems any more with loosing the camera for a week while Canon clean it but i have never damaged a sensor in well over 4 years of doing it with the correct equipment and methods.

Working trackside and changing lenses in the pits or by the track every other race weekend i need to be able to do it myself rather than send it away every other week for service.

Anyone in the UK after cleaning stuff etc then please give these guys a go as their service and support is fantastic http://www.cameraclean.co.uk/index.php (external link)
