Bryan, please a nutshell on what is going on. I'm far away and no access to the 1Dxii....what is going on?
I played with the 1DXii before flying off but only with a compact flash card and a battery from my 1Div.
We've been on the move almost constantly and i can't read all the forums.

In a nutshell, based solely on data from this forum/thread, as many as four (or more) new POTN 1Dx 2 owners have found that a small percentage of images taken with the 1Dx2 and written to the CFast card have had corruption within the image data.

Only on the Cfast card has this image file corruption manifested.

There is speculation that it could be the card, the card reader, or the camera's interface with the card.

Based on what I've read, my money is on the cards, or the way that the 1Dx2 writes to the cards. That's only my gut feeling.

So the only problem i see at the moment is many CFast cards are having trouble with the rate of data transfer when shooting either RAW or RAW+jpeg as i cant replicate the lock ups or corrupt files in any other way or with any other lenses or settings and infact the CFast card works fine in bursts using just jpeg.

If you just stick with using the CF card slot all is ok in all of my tests when shooting RAW or jpeg but you loose the option to shoot 4K video.

I tested this earlier actually prior to seeing your status and I can confirm the first part about CFast having some write issues. I noticed it slows down a lot when it gets too hot. Not a huge deal when working with the camera throughout the day, but for quick bursts when needed it can lock up for an unacceptably long time writing the card. Not ideal. Though to be fair I haven't seen this problem in real world use, only in explicitly testing bursts earlier. The CF card wrote just fine through the bursts.

About losing 4K with CF. That's only partially true. You cannot shoot more than a few seconds of 4K60P on CF. That is correct. But you can shoot 4K30P to your heart's content with even as slow as an 800X CF card. I let mine run for ten minutes recording in 4K30P before I got bored and formatted the card. I never hit the buffer once, and it wasn't just staring at a blank wall. Now, grant you, you'll only be able to fit 16m10s of 4K30P footage on a 64gb card. But that is miles ahead of shooting a few seconds and the camera telling you no more with 4K60P.

So 4K is very viable with CF cards. Just limited to 30P.

They also do just fine for 1080P120. It will shoot until the card fills up. Which will be quickly mind you! But it works. I've tested that extensively on live shoots multiple times now without a hitch.

Someone should use a CFAST card that has exhibited these issues in camera, plug it into the included card reader and X-Copy a huge folder of big RAW images FROM the computers FAST HD (like SSD?) to the C-Fast, and see if any corruption happens then.

This will help to rule in or out if the issue is strictly card based, or if the issue only occurs between the interface between camera and card.

Well I did copy 16GB worth of 1DX Raw files to the card from my iMac's SSD which is at least triple the speed of the CFast card. No errors. But I think I will need to fill the card as I am probably fighting the wear leveling.

I don't think anything can be ruled out except for the bundled Sandisk and Lexar Workflow card readers as the issue occurs with both readers. I've now read reports of corrupt files on the bundled Sandisk cards, Lexar 3400x and 3600x cards, and Transcends new CFast cards.

The only common denominator left now is the camera. It has not been ruled out as far as I am concerned. And the evidence isn't pointing to a happy ending.

For all future tests I am going to read the files directly from the camera's USB port.

I downloaded the same files directly from the camera's USB port & through the card reader & the same files did the same thing ...I was told to do this by Canon...after three calls...
I was told by Canon & Sandisk it appears to be card problem ...neither offered to send a new card...
starting to think I may buy a new Sandisk card put it unopened in with the camera so "all packaging will be as original" & ship camera back before my 30 day limit is up...lol

FWIW, I am using a 128 GB Sandisk CFast Extreme Pro 515MB/s card and have put 15,000 RAW frames on the camera already. No problems so far.

I've been using a 128 gb Super Talent Storage Card. No problems in over 8k images. I've been downloading all direct from the camera.

Card reader that came with the camera. I didn't use the 64GB CFast card that came with it though, ordered a separate SanDisk card for the faster write speed.

MedicineMan,

It would be impossible for me to add anything extra to Jake's excellent response above. Have fun on your trip and kick back with your feet up knowing that whatever the issue is (that is affecting a small handful of people), it is getting figured out while you're out having fun. Enjoy the rest of your trip my friend!

Bryan

Thanks Bryan, Jake, and everyone else.
Good advice, it's a Sony trip anyway :)
Bottom line for when I get back is no problem with CF cards and for what I do
really that is fine.
Kinda glad weightwise I'm bearing Sony today, we've got 1.5 hour uphill in snowshoes
to an ice cave, really more a crevase and not the beautiful blue ice but the she-boss wants
to go and I've got nothing better on the menu than sweat and toil and then shiver and freeze :)

Anyone in the UK received their 1dx2 in the last week or so ?.......seem to be ex stock in the US now but rare as rocking horse s@*t here.

Got mine on order with Calumet. All they can tell me is they have tons on order and they're only coming through a handful at a time. Longest. Wait. Of. My. Life.

Still, it'll feel like Christmas when it comes along with a new 70-200mm 2.8 IS II.
