Zeiss may be a "3rd party" lens, but, as you intimately know, they happen to be amongst the best lenses in the world! It's no surprise that the Tier 1 service rep at Canon sent that response to you, but I'd be shocked if we didn't see a firmware fix down the road. Canon certainly can't afford to snuff at their high-end customers. It's definitely annoying for you to have to wind up the EV that much every time you use this lens, so my fingers are crossed that we'll see a fix action for you as soon as they're able. Cheers, Bryan An update -- Zeiss has been informed and they are investigating the issue.

I don't know but it's possible that CFAST cards have a RAM buffer in front of the Flash memory to speed up writes and perhaps there's a problem in clearing the buffer. That might explain why the corrupted area is always the same size and shape. That's certainly plausible. It looks as though the size of the corrupted area varies a bit, but that would still be consistent with a buffer/size/timing related issue. Scott_online wrote in post #18023091 Another possibility is fragmentation. There's an interesting article on Thom Hogan's site where he interviews the CEO of a company that recovers data from corrupted flash cards and he describes symptoms very similar to what's being seen here: http://www.dslrbodies.com …a-recovery-interview.html That's an interesting article, but what he's talking about with fragmentation is that when a card gets corrupted (and that corruption hits the file system metadata) you lose the ability to work out which blocks on the storage belong (in which order) to which file. A clean (newly formatted) file system means there's a higher chance that each new file that's written will be placed in consecutive blocks - thus it'd be easier to reconstruct a file in the event of metadata corruption. With a fragmented file table, a single file could be sprayed all over the media as a chain of blocks. If you've lost the data that describes the chain, reconstruction is much harder. However - I don't think that's the case here, as it looks to be the file content that's damaged. Camera, some lenses, too little time, too little talent

Zeiss Lenses, Sigma and Tamron Lenses, YN622C triggers - and I'm sure more to come - all seems very deliberate on Canon's part since recent 7D2 and 5DSR bodies don't have these issues. The Zeiss issue almost seems like a middle finger and deliberate. Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

I don't think I would have got this with the 1DX1 - I wouldn't have been able to see the focus point for a start. Having compared high ISO shots from both cameras, I reckon the improvement with the 1DX2 is more about better colour retention/rendering than noise with the result that the high ISO images simply look better. The 1DX2 noise is maybe slightly less blotchy than the 1DX1 but the noise levels look very similar to me. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/Hz8cbt

ErikS.Klein uppity vermin fan More info | Now that I know the trick, a couple of studio shots from this weekend... The first and 3rd are with the strobes firing. The second was just cranking up ISO and taking a longer shot. I've certainly gotten these shots with the 1Dx before, but this is my first time dropping the II into the studio. Gear List
