Seems simple to me. I've used my workflow many times since getting the 1dx2 and each time using copy, i don't have any issues with CFast.

You're at a busy and exciting job, and in spite of facing only 3 hours of sleep, you're making great contributions to this thread. Thanks for being so awesome!

Bryan

Thanks. I'm attempting to at least. :p

Just finished with the four day long conference and tomorrow my partner and I are off to start exploring D.C. through Thursday. Looking forward to slowing down and being able to enjoy the scenery and sights.

Definitely trying to post some interesting shots. We're going to see a lot of wildlife and sports shot with this camera, as they should be! And keep them coming. Everyone's bird shots are amazing and I bow to your skills with long lenses. For myself, I think it's fun to show some of the less traditional use cases for the camera system as well. So I'm sharing more burlesque, concerts, and models and such. Also videos. I have one I'm really proud of to show actually that I'll share soon.

It's late again and I'll post more soon. Thanks for the kind words Bryan. :-)

I was just joking little. Sarah Palin said Bill wasn't one. I know we are not allowed political discussions. This was just a little jab. Keep the shots coming.

Haha! :p

No worries. I didn't take it that way at all.

Hummmm. :(

Mac does write some hidden files in the root directory of the CFast.
- .Trashes
- .fseventsd
- .Spotlight-V100
- ._.Trashes

Who knows what else :(

It would be amazing if all the problems were solved simply by insuring that one copies/transfers files to their computers!

The CFAST is literally tricking people that rely on software to "import" etc, rather than simply using the OS to transfer.

I hope this is the whole problem!

I use a Mac and have been consistently using the OS (dragging folders) to copy images from the CFast card to my hard drive, and then importing from the hard drive. I wish the fix was that simple!

The external drive thing does explain why the built-in Photos app will pop up for a CF card but not a CFast card!

I too have noticed how hot the CFAST card will get in the Sandisk reader. That is why I quickly copy the files and eject the card so as to avoid damage to the card.

John

My job is to enjoy the toys not to help Canooooon or Appleeee to figure out their problem :(

Damn, I shoot 8 pictures today, the first and last pictures are corrupted after I copied to HD, but did not know they were OK or not in before I copy them :(

Wanted to do a little test of DR comparing the 1DX_II to 5DSR and A7RII at base 100 ISO.

Test like this has been shown on DPReview, but wanted to do my own to see it

I created a high DR test picture. I metered and monitored blinkies to just slightly overexpose the brightest point. I was using Neutral -4 Saturation and -4 Contrast so I think this is pretty close to where Raw would clip with a tiny bit a headroom. Light was 98% controlled. Camera on Tripod, 10second shutter delay, shot in Liveview. Raised +3EV in Post, -100 highlights, +100 Shadows.

It is pretty obvious, even in LR / looking at the SOOC image, at base 100 ISO, that the 1DX_II and A7RII have at least 1 stop more DR because the Blacks are just Black with the 5DSR. DXO will show this as A7RII has DR of 14 Stops at 100ISO and 5DSR has 12.4. The summary of this test for me, is that at base 100 ISO, the 1DX_II has caught to Sony by 90% (at least) - at least at 100ISO, with reasonable pushing of a file (+3EV, -100HL, +100Shadows) there is no difference in the noise - the difference is only in the megapixels. The 5DSR, at base 100 ISO, just does not have the extra stop that these two cameras have - and this is a test that shows it. This is not a surprise to anyone after all this time, but what was a bit of a surprise to me is that the 1DX_II at 100ISO is basically A7Rii quality. Yes I know that the A7Rii at +5EV holds together slightly better, and that is the reason I own it, the sensor is amazing, but I just can't shoot that camera professionally for many reasons - but I do love the sensor.

I can only embed 8 pictures so I posted a link to the A7Rii

The real comparison is the last three images which are close to 2:1 massive crops showing how the blacks hold up in the shadows - this is where you can see the huge improve at base 100 ISO of the 1DXII - it has more DR data than the 5DSR and very close to the A7Rii (minus the pixel density)

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Good to see the gap closed! Now hopefully, this will trickle down to the rest of the bodies that are to come

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

And now a little high ISO comparison (may want to close your eyes if you are not a Sony fanboy)

- the E-ZPass on the left is at / near the clipping point (that is how exposure was set)
- this time +2EV (not +3,EV)
- +100 Shadows and -100 highlights
- 1:3 crops in LR
- this is really a high ISO DR test - you can see with the 5DSR, at 12,800, if you are exposing for your brightest highlight at clipping point, and then pushing shadows, at 12,800 you are running out of DR and there is really no data to push if you have a High DR scenario at high ISO
- this type of exposure technique works at low base ISOs but above 6400 ISO you run out of room very quickly
- interesting point, and with more graphs to come, is that for the properly exposed part of the image (in this case the white E-ZPass on the left) high ISOs are ok for noise

- at 12,800, remember that the 1DXII has half the pixels of the A7RII, they look pretty close
- at 25,600, this is where the 1DxII has its biggest hit to noise, up until 12,800 everything is increasing more linearly - 12,800 to 25,600 is a bigger hit - that said, if the heart of picture is similarly lit, without extreme differences, (unlike this picture), while there is a substantial increase in noise versus 12,600, some NR and a little PP, and you can get a decent image - just remember, you don't have a lot of DR at this ISO to work miracles
- at 51,200, the Sony holds up remarkably well - for B&W web images you could use this ISO

Not the most ideal conditions. 100-400v1 w/ 2x extender manual focus on this hummer that's about 20-25 feet away. Shame I didn't have my 7d2 and 100-400v2 with me.

not my field of expertise, but I sat on my porch this morning & caught this ...stuck my 2xII on my lens...had my ISO set high cause I'd been shooting stuff in the shade till I heard the tapping sound & didn't have time to change it...

Speaking of shadows. I was (hell-bent) again wasting my time waiting on a Bluebird an off in the shadows a rarity for here appears. No time to change settings, turn and shoot.
