I got my 2nd RMAed MB and as its taken 8 weeks to be replaced (damaged in transit and the wrong Rev level ) I decided to work late!

To do so I was using 2 table lights, I had moved one and didnt notice the lamp had slowly sunk down, its got a clamp for the vertical stand.

I noticed a strong burning smell, only to find the light was now playing on the top left corner of the brand new HP 4K monitor, (circa 2 weeks old) it melted the back corner and distorted it and the frame, and the top left 8th of the glass screen was red hot!

Wonder what the insurance company will say.

Boy I needed this to work right now so much - so I can test the RMAed motherboard!

I assume even if the monitor is totally screwed, trying it cant damage the workstation ?

I so do wish I had just gone and bought an HP Z Workstation! :( :(

TBH I think I know know what depression feels like!

Dont know yet got to finish installing the motherboard and all components.

HP monitor support said officially they have to say legally do not try it, for health and safety reasons; and so did the insurance co.
But the HP guy did say personally he didnt think trying it would damage the PC or graphics card if I tried it. He said it might work or not work, or might work for a while and then fail, or effect the colours in the overheated area either immediately or in the future. So it should be replaced.

The discussion forum bit was "is it safe to try it ... To see if it works"?

I'm glad things worked out for you.
Btw, how did you like the HP 4k monitor?

Thanks,
Actaually I love it.
When I first got the 5DS R I felt for the first time, that the images were superb, really gloss deep detail; but the 4K radically transformed the images. Its as though the camera is 3x as good.

I also dont have any scaling issues, full screen big text - ultra sharp.
So I can switch from photo editing to Outlook instantly.

As for editing it is magic, reduces my zooming in to say 10%! Just for the faces.
Every model so far who has seen her pics on this says they are the best pics they have had!
Only negative is one has to manage their expectations... As the images wont look anything like it when they get home ( as most seem to have very low grade laptops ).

I'd rather read a blog than someone being negative for no reason.
