I've been shooting this hawk for months now, mostly with EOS, and then the a6300 with
adapted lenses----I forget a BIF machine is here on the shelf.
OK the a77ii is not cheap but I've seen over and over again strings of images like this one.
I got 20+ in a row using the Tamron 150-600mm
If someone is looking to get into BIF I would recommend this combo over any other for dollars,
reach and weight.
BUT this combo loves light, the a77ii has Sony's yesteryear sensor and you can only push ISO so
much, worse is the buffer clearing time. No problem firing off those 20+ but it will take quite a while
for the buffer to clear.
Tracking is phenomenal, better than the a6300.
Handheld at 600mm-

Nice shot. Are you saying the Tamron is a good lens?

DigiBill, I can only offer my opinion.
I had the Tam 150-600 in the EOS mount. I sold it when I added a
Canon 400DOii. I could get sharper from the Canon by cropping to what
I could get with the Tam.
When I added the a77ii I thought I'd try the Tam again, again for me, the
combo does an outstanding job.
Either way, Sony a-mount of EF-mount I think the Tamron is awesome and for
many reasons stated over and over again in many forums=weight/reach/IQ but
mostly cost.

What I'm touting in this thread is the a77ii.
I have also 7Dii, 1Div, soon 1DXii.
For the money the a77ii is beyond the 7Dii. The 7Dii has the advantage of
newer sensor and BUFFER but even used 7Dii is more expensive than a77ii.

Here is a folder with a few BIFs from the a77ii-

Here is 9+ used a77ii at B&H

Throw in the Tam 150-600 and you see that for someone wanting to get into BIF and not
buy a Canon 500 IS ii and 7Dii the Sony and Tam combo is really nice.

Just as a reminder. You'll hate the write speed after a long sequence of shots.
Something else. DXO's Prime is outstanding for use with Sony for pushing ISO with this camera.

Last thought.
The a77ii I feel didn't do well with sales. That's a shame. With the 70-400gii it is even better
than the Tam 150-600 but that in my opinion takes it out of the economy BIF category (which is an expensive
category). I think it didn't do so well because of the pellicle mirror which cost 1 stop of light, but the pellicle
was the melding of mirrorless and DSLR, an invention to this day I think was brilliant. I can only think what the
pellicle approach would be like now with current Sony sensors which are miraculous in the A7Rii. We'll probably
never know since a-mount looks to going dodo :(

Nice shot. How cropped is it? I was wondering what the cause of the pretty heavy noise is? The ISO problems you mentioned (looks bright out), cropping, or just issues with the sensor?

Big crop and no NR. But I find the image acceptable.
