I had the same problem. I called them. I was able to email a picture of the camera serial number and the box. I think they want you to cut both bar codes from the camera box. It took about 2 weeks after I emailed the pictures to get the rebate.

I know it did NOT specifically ask for the camera. It did SPECIFICALLY ask for the printer UPC. I would say the instructions at not clear. I got my rebate so that is all that matters.

It didn't ask? Not clear?

Directly from the rebate form;

Step2 Cut out the 12 Digit UPC Barcode from the eligible Canon product(s) that you purchased.

And on the claim checklist it says;

Original proof of purchase 12-digit barcode cut from the eligible product box(es), leaving a hole in the box(es). WE MUST RECEIVE “PROOF OF PURCHASE WITH CARDBOARD INTACT. DO NOT PEEL OFF “PROOF OF PURCHASE” STICKER(S). (SEE SAMPLE UPC BAR CODE ABOVE)

How much clearer can it be when it says eligible products????

Other people made the same mistake so yes NOT CLEAR.

I am stating my experience from LAST year and I am POSITIVE it asked for the printer UPC and NOT the camera.

If you have your pre-submission form and your getting a $300 or $350 rebate. There is a required
documentation listing in two places proof of purchase and sales receipt it states both qualifying
products. Both as in two or one as well as the other.

I've bought Canon rebatable products for many years and haven't had any problems. I've learned to avoid rebate delay or denial by taking these precautions:

1. Pre-submission online if available.
2. Take photos of the product box(different views including upc) and then cut the upc barcode (tape on a separate piece of paper with your contact info and take a photo) and include it with the mailed documents.
3. Make copies of mailed documents.
4. Send certified mail with returned receipt.

Aside from the UPC's the rebate form asks for the serial number of the printer. What about the serial number of the camera? Do I need to include that somewhere too?

I had a similar thing when I did a rebate i had purchased some other items at the same time and they couldn't find the camera on the receipt I had to highlight sed it to them before they
would process it.

So a quick update.

After a very prompt e-mail response from the rebate center, I cut out the UPC for the camera body and sent it on its way along with the rebate reference id an my specific claim number. That was well over a week ago. Today I got a notice in the mail from Canon that I needed to send the camera body UPC to continue the claim process. Obviously my outgoing UPC to them crossed with the incoming notice from the rebate center. I'd be willing to guess that it has been delivered, but just not "received" and sorted by the claims people. Keeping fingers crossed!

At the rebate center they are polite, but very firm. There are 3 UPC numbers on my Pro 10 Printer. I sent in number 2. Figuring I wouldn't deface the box.
I was denied.

I had destroyed the box but they walked me through taking a picture of the serial number on the printer and I ended up getting my rebate. It was my fault
I read the instructions, but as my wife says to me all the time I skim more than I read at times.

Alls well that ends well I guess.

It's very clear that the UPC cutouts should be included.

Where I got tripped up and where it wasn't "very clear" to me was where they only asked for the serial number for the printer and not the camera body. I made the mistaken assumption that the UPC wasn't needed.

The first time I didn't quite do it right either, but rather than say 'tough luck' they were very helpful in getting me to send in what was needed and I got the rebate pretty quickly.

I think the rebate center is a 3rd party that gets paid for each rebate they processes. Canon puts very strict rules that have to be followed, but it is in the rebate centers interest to process as many as they can, so they will do what they can to make sure you do get the rebate. At least this is my impression of how it works.

I've done two separate rebates in the last year (lens and camera) without any issues

There must be a totally different process here in the UK, Canon are more than happy with electronic copies of receipts or order confirmations, no sending in of cut out barcodes etc
