I have a Canon 1d MKIII, I was using it today and it was performing normally then all of a sudden when taking a picture i was getting a black screen and no picture.

Upon investigation i can see the shutter is still down when i take a picture so no light gets to the sensor, even if i select to clean the sensor manually the shutter stays down so i cant get to the sensor.

Any ideas as to why this has suddenly started to happen? and how to fix it as im supposed to be out taking pictures tomorrow !

Thanks in advance

Martyn

Did you inadvertently turn on MLU? C.Fn-III, 15, IIRC.

No i was taking pictures of bikes racing and the shutter stopped working, ive cleared all the settings and it still wont go up.

If i press the shutter button to take a picture everything appears to work as normal as it always has but the shutter doesnt go up and i get a black picture.

When you go to clean the sensor, does the mirror flip up out of the way? If so, then you are still seeing the shutter slats still in the way to the sensor? In either case, it sounds like it needs repaired, whether the mirror or shutter isnt working. In sensor clean mode, there isn't anything you can configure to stop the mirror or shutter from not getting out of the way.
