Whale bones?

Yes
In days past it was one of the industries
Nowadays the tide has turned and they're admired for their beauty

one of the first shore-based whaling stations in Tasmania, established in 1824

Unlike deep sea whalers who towed the whale to the side of the ship to carrying out flensing, shore whalers - like those in this image -Whaler's Cove (external link) towed the whale to shore stations where they were flensed in the shallow waters prior to being processed on land. Initially, teams of flensers start from the head and striped the blubber and then hacked it into manageable blocks. Pressurised steam digesters separated the oil from the liquid product which was dried, ground into powder and sold as whale meal for animal feed. Great iron cauldrons called trypots were used for the stinking, greasy job of boiling down whale blubber. Pairs of trypots surrounded by bricks were called the tryworks. The blubber was heated and stirred until the precious oil separated out. It was then ladled into large copper coolers and later poured into casks for storage and shipment

The Seaham Wheels. A bit of history that only emerges at low tide on Chemical Beach, Seaham. They only ever seem to be taken at 20mm or wider so I thought I'd try a narrower approach since the sky wasn't very interesting.

I remember seeing part of the Seaham RR story on a hunt for n*z* gold show a while back. Someone thought that some train loaded with gold was along that line and vanished into some sort of cave and rails were then ripped up to hide the location. Pretty much junk TV viewing, but the rail line story was very interesting, nonetheless.

Cool shot, I like the exposure time choice.

Memories of steelheading when I was living out West . . . I think this was on the Sauk River.

Nikkormat 35 mm camera, digitized from slide.

Headed down to Point Peron, Rockingham Western Australia (my local favourite place) to photograph to full moon setting over the ocean - I have been planning this shoot for some months and unfortunately at the last minute mother nature didn't play the game

Anyway, I stayed and captured a few images and here are my two favourites.

The first image is a single exposure and the second one is a five image HDR.
