the radiator, in or out? As well, is the second crop better suited?

I agree, but my solution would be to re-crop the image.

That is what I was thinking, I have another photo of him in portrait orientation and I think the radiator cancels the dead space. Oh well, decisions... I will think about it before delivering

If leaving it at that crop, I'l say, with!
Gives it the homely feel as Cubatahavana said (Ideally a small kids bookshelf/toybox would be better suited than a radiator ofc). But that crop without the radiator is an awkward empty space - You would need to be further back with more toys scattered to pull it off. Thats how i picture it anyway.

So its radiator in or portrait crop the shot. imo :)
