I don't know yet. I think it gives a bit more of a "homey" effect. Maybe I'm the only one, though

I agree, but my solution would be to re-crop the image.

That is what I was thinking, I have another photo of him in portrait orientation and I think the radiator cancels the dead space. Oh well, decisions... I will think about it before delivering

If leaving it at that crop, I'l say, with!
Gives it the homely feel as Cubatahavana said (Ideally a small kids bookshelf/toybox would be better suited than a radiator ofc). But that crop without the radiator is an awkward empty space - You would need to be further back with more toys scattered to pull it off. Thats how i picture it anyway.

So its radiator in or portrait crop the shot. imo

With out. No one would ever know it was there. Beautiful portrait.

I say without, distracts and with those eyes you really don't want the distraction.

With, it gives it less of a studio feel and more natural imo

The radiator balances the image and places the child in context, so another vote for with.
