With all the focus issues reported with the 70D, has anybody experienced anything remotely approaching this problem with the new 80D?

Main issue was fast lenses with the center auto focus point.

Discuss!

I fear there's nothing to "discuss."

Since no one has responded, I'm going to. Never had any focus issues on my 70D and so far, haven't seen any on my 80D. It may not be the perfect APS-C, but it's damn close.

I know exactly what focus issues you're talking about. Way back my first 7D had it and it had it badly, at least with 2-3 lenses, including my 17-55 2.8 IS. That body went to Canon twice, second time along with the lens, no fix.
My second 7D, a refurb from Canon, did not have this issue

I've heard and read that some 70D bodies exhibited similar behavior, unhappy users and several Youtube videos demonstrating the problem. And I never dismissed their complaints since I knew what they were facing. My 70D had no issue fortunately. And it seems that neither does my 80D, after shooting about 5000 images.
If anything I feel that the 80D is more accurate in AF than my 70D was, could be placebo :)
But no such issues as you were referring to.

I pre-ordered the 70D -- to set the timeframe of mine -- no focus issues, and I've never been able to recreate the bounce flash issues either -- and I did try to reproduce that one -- so neither are universal, or I just never managed to recreate the conditions causing others their angst.

Thanks for the input.

My 70D didn't have the issue but apparently many did.

I'm really happy to hear the 80D has not exhibited any sort of problem (yet).
