I emailed metabones support to ask if the v4 model supports pdaf for the a6300. They replied to say it does not. (it does for the a7ii and a7rii).

Jason Lanier uses it on the a6300 with good results.

Thanks folks. I saw the Jason Lanier video and the results are amazing.

Has anyone tried any slightly older Canon lenses? In particular the 70-200 f/2.8L IS (v1) and the 300 f/4L IS are two that I own.

I would not use them very often but it would cost me much more than the adapter to upgrade them to Sony glass.

I am happy to trade to new glass for the lenses I would use more often.

I am really happy with the camera btw. Once you get used to the slightly different approach it is actually nice to have a less technical mindset and trust the camera to do more of the work.

Ok Jason Lanier tried some older lenses

So it looks like the email I was sent by Metabones is incorrect. According to Jason the a6300 focusses the EF lenses faster than the A7Rii.

I think I may have to try one.

Any feedback on how the a6300 does when shooting continuously with the 70-200?

With the a7rII, continuous shooting basically doesn't work as only the first shot will be in focus. I'd like to keep the Canon 70-200, and may pick up the a6300 if it can allow the 70-200 to focus as it should in af-c with continuos focus.

In the video he shows the 70-200 successfully keeping focus on a model train moving towards the camera and then sideways. It looks like it is doing a great job on a slow moving subject.

When my metabones arrives I will try some faster things and see how well it works. The a6300 is the first camera I have owned that seems to get focus more right than wrong with photos of my kids playing, but that is with Sony glass so far. If it can do that with my 70-200 f2.8 and my 300 f4 then I am completely satisfied with this camera and will sell all the rest of my Canon gear.

Metabones delivered today. After 10 mins mucking around with the 70-200 it works well. Possibly better than my 5d2 but at least as good. Subject focus and recompose is something nice that didn't work before.

a lot of times when manufacturer says "its not supported" it just means we haven't tried it yet and don't have a comment on it.

A couple with 300mm f4L IS + 1.4x TC.

70-200 is very solid. 300 is not perfect but very usable.

Very pleased with this purchase.

70-200mm spot focus on the chicken, recompose take a step forward then shoot. No way to do that on my 5d2.

Yeap! exactly why I love the Sony mirrorless. I do the same, spot focus, reposition, move a foot or two, take picture. Got good at it with my 5D. But man the Sony is much more fun and I see it live so can make exposure compensation on the fly. Just love my A6000.

Why are you both focussing, then moving, then taking the picture? Why would you not get into correct position , focus and shoot? What am I missing here?
