So lately I been debating on making a switch or should I say adding a new camera and was thinking what would be a great FF body for a reasonable price. I currently have a t4i.

What do you shoot? What is the Rebel not doing for you?

I would add a few more lenses before adding a new body, it will give you more versatility then a new body

I try to shoot many things as it is more of a hobby. Family/kids, macro, nature/landscape and stars. I want to be able to discover the differences between the two types. I still have alot to learn with my current crop body. Like I said I was debating so just getting a feel on a decent FF.

Why go up in size? Why not debate going down in size?

Your current t4i is a capable camera. It also has better AF than any inexpensive full frame body you could get. It also has more resolution than any inexpensive (5Dc, 1Ds) full frame body you could get. The 5Dc and 5DII are, by modern standards, crippled with respect to auto-focus. Both sport a 9 point AF system that struggles with: low light, slow lenses, any kind of servo focus.

The 6D will cost you a few hundred more than a 5DII, and the ROI is staggering. The 6D's AF is more responsive than that of the original 7D. It is certainly not as versatile, but it is much more tune-able for various servo situations. That said, my evaluation of the 6D's AI-servo performance is 'lack-luster'. But, it is better than the 5Dc/5DII in AI-servo. For reference, I just sold a 70D (also out AI-servos the 7Dc) for a 1DIII. The AF is noticeably faster, and 10 fps for 140+ frames just makes me smile.

With regard to the noise profile, your t4i is better than the 5Dc at ISO 1600 and above. The 5DII will get you some gain wrt to noise. The 6D is better than the 5DII, measureably.

Glass matters. And it is expensive. If you shoot your t4i with mostly EF glass, the transition won't be too expensive. If your collection is mostly EF-s, plan on spending large for the apsc -> FF move.

If you shoot slow glass, at moderate ISO settings, and print small (<11"x17"), you won't see much difference in full-frame. Full frame really shows it stripes with f/1.x lenses, at ISO 3200+ (though new apsc bodies are improving all the time), and when printing LARGE.

5DMarkIII

The used ones are getting really cheap, also be prepared to have your rebel feel like a kid's toy after you use a pro body.

Agree. If my move to a modern full-frame camera were well-planned, I'd have jumped with both feet and gotten a 5DIII to start with. Instead, I bought a 6D, then added a 70D for better AI-servo, which got sold to get an even better 1DIII. The 5DIII is likely the best 'general shooter' body available.

If you can splash some cash then get the 5d mark iii... amazing camera. But if you are on more of a budget and dont have too much invested in Canon then my suggestion is the Nikon d700. Excellent camera with good autofocus (compared to a 5d, 5dii and 6d)

I may be a bit biased cause the d700 is what I shoot but for the price that I paid it is a total deal.

Good luck with your choice. :)

I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. Lumping those three bodies in one pile, with respect to AF, suggests you have no experience with some or all of them. I had the 5Dc (same AF as 5D2), the 7D, and the 6D all at the same time. The 6D is in a league of its own for AF. The center point is dead accurate, and focus is quick and decisive with every lens I own. The peripheral points on the 6D are better, in any light, than the center point on the 5Dc. The 6D in AI-Servo is more responsive than the highly regarded 7D. The 6D also has the uncanny ability to lock focus in light I can't see in. The 6D's AF is spooky-good.

While I agree with you about the 5DIII, your comments about the 5D, 5D2, and 6D are at best, uninformed.

For the scenarios being photographed, if you were going FF, the only real contender is the 6D, just for its -3 EV AF. I don't see how the 5D3 at a much higher price tag really adds anything to the mix, nothing was noted that would require the AF capabilities of the 5D3.

The 6D is a bit on the smaller side, is less expensive than the 5D3, has slightly better ISO performance, and would share the same cards as the Rebel.

Given the situation, desire, and current equipment, the 6D feels like the correct answer here.

What lenses do you own currently? If you have an UWA for your rebel, you can still use it on a FF if you add a 1.4x TC to the mix. However, getting some EF lenses will most likely be better in the long run.

That is good, you can use the 50mm then if you get a FF. If you are in the US, you can make use of the Canon refurbished store to get some great lenses at discounts, and there might be a 15% sale going on right now too, for both cameras and lenses.
