Let me know your thoughts people. I am really surprised by this. And I was actually in the market for a Ultra Wide Angle lens. The fact that the lenses will be designed for the FE mount, and not a Canon/Nikon Full Framed lens with a converter slapped on made me very happy. And to add the ability to autofocus is just icing on the cake! I don't expect the AF to be silent or cutting edge, especially for first generation lenses, but I'm sure it will work well for most people's needs. Now just to how much they will charge for them is the next question.
I am hoping they are at least under 1000$ CAD (790USD). If so, I actually wouldn't mind selling my Sigma Art for these lenses.

The article can be found here.

During my short camera career, I've had the opportunity to own and use extensively the lovely Rokinon 35mm 1.4 (Canon Mount) and now currently, the Rokinon 135mm F2 (Nikon Mount). In short they are beautiful to use, but heavy to hold. Cheap in price, but very very high on image quality.

Edit: Woops, this should have been posted in the Sony lens section, my bad.

I'll probably pre-order the 14. I've not had any experience with Samyang, but from what I've seen, the optical quality is very high. There seem to be some QC issues, so there may be some lens lottery involved...but if the price is right, I'm game.

This was my initial thought too until I saw the size comparison :(

I'll take the 2/3 stop loss to avoid the 1/3 size/weight increase.

A bit of good news from the SAR website. The lens should be around the ballpark of 400-600$ USD range, and is no bigger than the Sigma 50mm ART (without adapter).

I'm glad to see that there will be more options for lenses, aside from the usual Sony and Zeiss offerings :)

Wish list: 14/35/135

I'm hoping they don't stop making new MF only lenses too though... I really love using a well built MF lens. As an added bonus, MF only lenses are generally smaller and cheaper :) I would love to see them release a 35/2, 100/2 and some type of short macro... a 50/2-2.8 with 1:1 macro would be awesome :)

not sure why it's compared to the sigma art, unless it has IQ to rival that lens.... bokeh wise, it's a clear notch better than the canon f1.4, and has an aspherical element, so it's in between.

I'm on board with the wish list

a 50mm macro that I've been eyeballing for the longest time is the sigma 50mm f2.8 macro (newest version). They can be found on ebay for ~120+. From what I've read, optics top notch and does 1:1. It looks compact as well, and for macro, I'de definitely prefer at least electronic aperture. Not sure why I havent bought one already, but once I sell off some stuff, I may consider it again.

Another video showing how it acts in video mode. The 50mm is buggy, but seems promising :)

From SY facebook page, the 14mm is 460g, 110g savings over current E mount version. I think it has 7 aperture blades, which will be a HUGE upgrade over existing version. Nice upgrades, but not enough for me to preorder.

The current Samyang 14mm, 35mm and 85mm for the Nikon and Canon mounts are really, really, really good! I've spent many months in the 35mm section hehe

14mm = https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=909272
85mm = https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=781777 (This is a very underrated lens for what it can do and for how much it costs.)
35mm = https://photography-on-the.net …read.php?t=1043327&page=1 (Me and this lens had a lot of good times lol)

The S50A was my workhorse lens when I had the 6D, and I loved it, but man was it heavy. I can't imagine it on my a6000. I hope the Samyang is substantially lighter, and it is a good start that it is a good bit shorter once the adapter is factored.

Another thing about the S50A, was the hood. It was very high-quality, but huge for a 50mm lens! If Samyang improves that aspect, as well as the weight, I would consider selling my FE55--but even still, it wouldn't be a sure thing.

The FE55 is everything I need it to be--small, light, great IQ, durable (oops) and fast AF. I do wish it was f 1.4 sometimes, but not often enough call it a need.

If they release a 135 f1.8 or f2 with AF, and it is anywhere close to the $1K range, I'm totally in. As much as I like the potential of my LOMO KO 120 f1.8 (external link), it is far from a practical lens even after I finish converting it.
