Totally unintentional shot with my cell phone. I shook the phone in HDR mode and had no idea that this was going to happen :)

What an amazingly cool thread with some truly spectacular images! I experimented with a bit of light painting too a few years ago but just with some still lifes. Like these shoes.

And here's an AV piece I made from animating, looping and glitching (into oblivion...) a bunch of light painted photos including the ones above. Contains mucho flickering lights and 'music' that won't be to everybody's (anybody's?!) taste.

You've been warned :D

Very cool thread. I've only done lightpainting with actually writing letters, but never done anything like this. Keep m coming!

Cheers! Most of those were done with homemade stuff. I started out with a 2m effort made from some shelving bracket and white LED strip. I wanted something larger, so I made a 4-5m extendable jobbie using a window washing pole and RGB controllable LED strip. Both run off a 9v bike battery which I carry in a shoulder bag. I can run them off an AA pack as well if needed. The RGB strip is great fun as you can control pattern, colour, flash timing etc. I've also got a couple of flasher modules that can be plugged in for breaking the walls up :)

This is the 2m and battery:

Here's the 5m and the RGB controller:

I've since added a Pixelstick, a smaller 1m RGB and have a bunch of LED powered lightsabers that I also use - mainly for an occasional workshop I run with kids. The lightsabers give a really soft mark and are a nice contrast to the hard-edged LED wands:
